Hi

When I was diagnosed I was a good 2 st over weight. I followed the 5:2 diet and list the weight over 18 months. I still follow it to maintain my perfect weight. This way you actually eat healthy food. I checked it out with GP only to find he was also doing the same!

I follow a Mediterranean style diet eating lots of vegetables, fish, chicken, turkey and rarely have red meats. I try to cut out all sugary style products although I do have occasional treats but usually these are home made so that I know what has gone in to them.

IMO the problem with diets like Slim Fast is that although the weight loss is a quick fix it is not a lasting fix. I know a couple of people who have used Slim Fast and once they stop they put back on the weight and more.

I put on weight around menopause time about the same time as I was diagnosed with PBC. Some time later I managed to lose 20 kilos. Cutting out bread, pasta and potatoes for some of the period of early weight loss, but I now eat this again but in more moderation.

Good luck with whatever route you decide to take.
