Hrt help

I was diagnosed in 2021 with PBC, but unfortunately I’ve ended up having a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago

I had stage 4 Endometriosis, and because I’m only 41 I have been put on the combined hrt, the hospital gave me pills for hrt and I was expecting patches, not only that the paperwork with them says not to take with liver conditions!

I’ve spoke to the pharmacist at my own gp’s and she said they are ok to take but I will just need extra monitoring and to stop them immediately if I get jaundice which says to me I shouldn’t be taking them…

Is there any advice you can all offer please?

I have heard presentations at the PBC Foundation's Thursday Q&A with specialists such as Professor Jones that HRT dermally is unlikely to cause problems as it is not processed through the liver. If you can contact your specialist to get some advice he may be able to guide your GP towards best treatment if your GP is unable to make the decision to try this available alternative.

As an aside my daughter has a cream that she applies for her HRT treatment.

Hope this helps.

I was told patches only. Gastroenterologist wrote to doc's saying yes to only patches and gels. No pills. Ask for patches or to see specialist in hrt. On patches for over a year and no difference in bloods.

I was also told patches and no to pills…so I would try and speak to your gp or specialist just to be on the safe side.

Good luck x

Hi, I would check again, I was told that I definitely couldn't have tablets as they are absorbed through your liver. I have patches. Hope you get sorted, sounds like you have a lot on your plate without worrying about medication. All the best

thanks everyone

Over the last few days I have become very very itchy to the point I’m marking my skin, and even drawing blood on occasions! Time for doctors appointment and see what they suggest, I’ve started to take antihistamines which have helped but I can’t continue to do that indefinitely
