Hi everyone I have a question just lately my hands and wrists I really hurting even when I'm not using them and aching arms but hands are the worse is this pbc ?
Aching : Hi everyone I have a question just... - PBC Foundation
Aching
Hi Purdy, I’ve read that there can be joint pain in PBC but also that other autoimmune conditions such as arthritis often coexist with it that can also cause pain, including in the hands. You could ask the PBC foundation for some info or your specialist.
I’ve had some hand pain in the last couple of months but particularly in the thumb joints. It was hurting even when not using my hands but was especially noticeable when waking up if my hand had been resting under my head. It was most painful if I bent my thumb or pressed into it. It was very similar to my experience of having Ross River virus a few years ago which causes arthritic-like pain in the joints.
My thumb pain has now eased and hopefully your hand pain will too. I have found the symptoms of PBC constantly come and go for me, like the itch and level of fatigue. So hopefully, whether it’s to do with PBC or not, it will just be transient and your hands will feel ok again soon.
Thankyou very much for your reply yes hopefully I cant lift anything heavy anymore before I just used to do it now it makes me think I'm hoping it will go I do have arthritis in one joint in my finger but my hands dont usually hurt how rmthay have been just so ache its horrible hurts one I close my hands I cant squeeze them together anymore 😯
I’m so sorry it’s so horrible 🙁 It might be worth just checking in with your doctor if it’s that painful. I do get a weakness in my arms that comes and goes where it feels hard just to lift them up, but I don’t know if that’s the same thing as what you’re experiencing. Take care and I really hope it gets better soon 🙏
I also get hand and joint pain which I kind of expect at my age. Can you get an appointment with your GP as this may not be PBC pain but one of the other numerous things such as repetitive strain injury, carpul tunnel syndrome or arthritis. Hope you find an answer.
I’m sorry you are in pain. I also have hand pain. I have two things that help so much.
One is a wax warmer. You put lotion on ( I just use coconut oil) and dip your hands in, then wrap them in these little plastic bags and put them in kind of like oven mitts.
The other one is just heating pads made to surround your hands. The cord is split so there is one little heating pad pocket for each hand.
I just wanted to mention those incase it would help relieve some of your pain. I got both those on Amazon.
When everything hurts, I wrap myself up in an electric heated blanket like a burrito and we have a hot tub that I will spend hours soaking in. A hot bath with Epsom salts would help, too.
Thankyou for you reply that sounds like heaven I would love a hot tub for my body to soak in ok thankyou I will take a look on Amazon 😊

They are the most helpful things I have tried.
I did buy compression gloves for arthritis but that made my hands hurt worse, so I’m not sure if it would help you.
I hope you find something that helps. 💐
Make sure you are taking 13-15 mg/kg/day in 2 or more divided doses. Urso can cause severe swelling of the hands and feet, which can cause horrible pain, more likely at higher doses. Talk to your liver doc because the swelling is not good for circulation or nerves, as they get compressed. Ask about taking a few days off from Urso and if swelling improves the pain will go away. Then your doc can figure out how to proceed. Good luck. Heat relieves pain temporarily by dilating blood vessels and therefore bringing more oxygen. But it doesn't decrease swelling, and long term that's what you need to do. If this is arthritis that should be treated as well.
