I stopped eating any meat one month ago. I am hoping it will bring my cholesterol down. I had gained weight when I quit smoking four years ago. I tried alit of things to lose the weight but since I stopped meat I have lost nine pounds and I don't itch as much. I hope this works. Will see next month when I have blood work done. Thus month my GGT dropped 220 points..

Stopped eating meat.
Well done! I gave up meat 23 years ago. Have never suffered from the itch. Cholesterol a little high but good as well as bad as we can’t take statins. Weight fluctuates a bit but don’t miss meat at all.
Are you saying we can’t take statins. Why is that. I take them.
My hepatologist says statins are safe to take even with pbc. I stopped the statins with my doctor’s approval for a while after my pbc diagnosis but hepatologist became concerned about my high cholesterol and suggested that I get back on them. So I consulted with my pcp and a cardiologist before going back on. Then as my ldl was high, I consulted again with the cardiologist and my hep and we increased the dosage to 20 mg a day. I was only taking 10 mg every other day but that was not enough.
Congratulations! Good going. I too found that avoiding meat helps with weight control. I exercise regularly.I still try to get protein regularly by taking whey, soy, and other products commercially available. By limiting my portions, eating three small “square” meals daily with carefully chosen snacks between, I hope lost twenty pounds that my GP did not encourage me to lose.
I am so happy that I did, for many reasons. My Body Mass Index is around 20. I feel great.
Keep up the good work!
