Currently there is no specific diet recommended for PBC however many of us seem to tinker with our diet to best suit how we feel. For myself I rarely eat red meat these days, when I do it makes me feel poorly. I rarely eat any sugary products, keep salt intake to a minimum and never have any supermarket pre processed foods. I avoid fatty fried foods. Recently I went for a curry I had no problems with the food but I did notice how salty everything tasted.
Some people report that they take dairy or gluten from their diet and find an improvement. I eat lots of vegetables and salads. I make my own fish cakes, nut roast and soups, often in batches for the freezer to take out on those evenings that I do not feel up to cooking. Burgers from lentils and/or mushrooms go nice with salad (as an example) but I do buy cheese slices to melt on top to add taste.
I do not have CKD but I do have other auto immune diseases.
I don’t have the kidney problem, but Cathy’s advice seems good. I too try to avoid fried/salty/sugary foods and concentrate on having a balanced diet with as many fruits and veggies as I can. I eat some fish and often buy meat substitutes, such as burgers and chik’n nuggets. I do not miss meat, although occasionally my wife and I will eat small, lean meat portions.Good luck!
