Hi there

Does anyone know if it’s ok to use Voltarol Joint pain gel if you have PBC and are on Urso?

Thanks

Voltaren Arthritis Pain Gel for Topical Arthritis Pain Relief, #1 Doctor Recommended Topical Pain Relief Brand - OTC, you can buy it at Costco, Amazon, etc.. Active ingredient Diclofenac 1%, generic gel. It also comes as 2% (Pennsaid pump - Rx) and 3% diclofenac gel (only Rx). It's totally fine to use any of these gels (3% - only if your doctor thinks it's not too strong), while taking URSO. It's better to use topical gel than take pills (Aleve, Advil, Celebrex). I use all of these gels - 1%, 2% and 3%, depending where I apply them. A knee pain requires stronger gel. I've been on Urso since 2016. My gastro doctor, who sees me with PBC as well, recommends topical gel over tabs, if gel helps.

You must be in the UK. Volterol is the same as Voltaren gel sold in the US. The active ingredient in Volterol is diclofenac diethylammonium. The active ingredient of Volteren is diclofenac sodium. The only difference is in the strength. Volterol is bit stronger gel than Volteren. The bottom line, I've been using Volteren (I'm in the US) for years, and stronger gels, like Pennsaid (also diclofenac) while taking URSO. It's perfectly fine for you to take URSO and use Volterol gel for you joints. If you have concerns, you should discuss it with your doctor.
