Pfizer and ALP

I just received a letter from my consultant telling me that my ALP has dropped to 746 since my last bloods in December. It’s usually at least double that. The only thing that happened in between was my 2 Pfizer vaccines! Has anyone else had a similar result?

Great news, it would be wonderful if the Pfizer vaccine had more than COVID implications.

Hope it keeps going down for you.

That's good news. Are you on medication for PBC?

My medication hasn’t changed for over 2 years. I get prescribed Urso as well as Bezafribrate and Obetocholic Acid.

Nobody will be able to confirm it for you with certainty. Hope it stays low, whatever the reasons are. Best wishes.

Hi, my ALP has been under 200 but never lower than 160 for a while,....years I'd say. But, I got my 2nd Moderna shot the middle of April. I just had labs as well, a week ago last Friday. My ALP was 151. I realize the real numbers to watch for us PBCers is Bilirubin and Albumin. Those were normal for me and have been. Anyway, my ALP was lower than usual too. *Given that PBC is an autoimmune disease, ...did getting the shot distract our immune systems for a bit to concentrate elsewhere (covid-19 vaccine) for instance? Interesting. Still, I've heard ones state, you can be in Cirrhosis and present with decent liver numbers. 🤷‍♀️

True. When I was a member of American Liver Foundation’s forum, it was stated that because numbers are good doesn’t mean you aren’t progressing. I understand bili and albumin being important, as bili indicates liver function. So I suppose the other numbers we get stressed about, are just numbers. I have an appt with hep Friday and I’m asking that question. Just because ALK PHOS goes up, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s from the liver yet drs watch it closely. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ But I also understand the importance of our platelet count, rbc, wbc and others.

You are right numbers to watch total bilirubin goes up and albumin goes down

My MELD score went from 11 to 9.9 after my first shot. I’ve now had my second and I’m curious to see if it drops again.

Not liver enzymes but I was tested for Hep A in December which was negative. Tested again in March, it was positive. Just got the latest results and it is negative. Had both covid vaccinations in February. Tells me the vaccine does affect your testing.

Interesting...do you have antibodies for hep A or not then? There is a Hep A vaccine...2 doses one year apart and it supposedly lasts so no additional shot is needed.

No antibodies. Never had it or the vaccine. Waiting to see what my Hepatologist opinion is.

You should get the Hep A vaccine. I got the vaccine years ago before pbc diagnosis.

Same thing happened to me after Pfizer shot. Dropped significantly…. lower than its ever been. However, I retested two weeks later and it was back to it’s normal high level. So it may be low from the shot, but it didn’t stay low….atleast for me.

It's been a very long time since I have been on the forum....long story, but i am still doing ok. I recently had a terrible reaction to a toe fungal medicine that skyrocketed my LTF's and began a bout of itching like never before. Ended up at the Hepatologist who is not quite sure if I truly have PBC or not! Really! Anyway, starting all the initial tests again. In the meantime, I had both Pfizer vaccines and my ALP dropped 300 points. Now, I do not know if this would have happened on its own or if it was the vaccine. They are still really high. Bilirubin and Albumin good. I get results tomorrow when i see him....always a mystery. Be well
