Hello American PBCers! I went to the pharmacy to get my first prescription of Urso and the copay was $600.00 for a 3 month supply!! Has anyone found a less expensive way to get this needed medication? Don't get me started on the US health care system's flaws...

Cost of Urso
Yes. I get my 3 month prescription at Kroger's pharmacy. It is about $125.00 for 500mg 2x daily. I use a GoodRx coupon . Download the coupon on your phone and take it with you to the pharmacy.

The cost of prescription drugs in the states are crazy, glad to be Canadian. It cost 55$ for 1 month supply, my insurance pays most , I pay 5$ a month for my 750mg a day prescription.
Hi Stj58
My insurance won't pay for my script so I now go thru Good RX app. I may sometimes have to go through the BS of switching stores at times but better then paying full price. Now I get mine for no more then 50.00 a month. Good luck!! I hope it works as good as it has for me.
Depending on your insurance coverage, if you have access to mail order prescriptions it might be cheaper. I use Caremark mail order and pay $15 for a three month supply of generic urso. I'm positive it would be higher if I purchased it at my local pharmacy. Another suggestion is to call around and ask. My son was prescribed Modafinil off-label, meaning we'd have to pay all out of pocket. The first two pharmacies I called were going to charge us around $500 for a month's supply. Then I called Costco and it was only $30 per month there—problem solved. Good luck! $200/month is outrageous.
Is Caremark through your insurance? I have a high deductible HSA and that would be a big help. My insurer's price (that I have to pay 100% of until I hit the deductible I never hit) is around $200/month.
Yes, we have a choice of local pharmacies or Caremark through our insurance. There are rules for Caremark, like you need to order a minimum number of day supply, which isn't a problem when it's a prescription you take daily. (I don't recall what the minimum is, sorry.) But Caremark has been great -- efficient and accurate.
Sounds like I’m one of lucky... I only have a $20 copay for a 90 Day supply (500mg:2d)
As I am over 60 I get mine for free although if younger would pay £8.50. Thankfully, I live in the U.K. and our glorious NHS.
I’m also in the U.K and over 65 so don’t have to pay, we are so lucky to have a NHS
Do you know of any support group in Hertfordshire?
I’m on a PBC support group just for U.K. it’s really helpful and informative I’m afraid I can’t send you a link as technology is wasted on me. Have a look on fb and you will find it. Also the PBC Foundation is worth joining
10$ for a 3 month supply. 750 mg a day.
I’m from Chile and I pay aprox 300 us for my monthly Urso treatment. Very, extremely expensive. And I also pay about 150 us for Colestiramina. It’s crazy .
I have Elixer RX as a supplement to my Medicare. URSO runs $15 for a 90 day supply. I have another prescription that runs over $950 per month. That was beyond our budget. I contacted the manufacturer directly and indicated it caused financial hardship. They asked for income verification and several forms but ended up giving me a 6 month supply at no charge. Worth looking into.
If you are in the USA, go check out The Assistance Fund. Find it at taf.org. They are non-profit and if you qualify, they pay your cost for you. They stopped carrying my Urso capsules, so I had to start paying for it myself. You will likely get free, or $10 copay with them.
It all depends on your insurance in the US. I pay approximately 15 dollars for a 3 month supply. I wish it was more equitable.
I only pay $3.00 for 1 month
With Medicare & Extra Help.
There is a website called Rare Diseases which may be able to offer extra help.
Best wishes
Do you have insurance? I have insurance but I had to go through a different pharmacy because of my insurance. Now I get them from CVS in the mail, 3 months supply for $10.
Can you try RX. Com on your phone? Well Biden won.
I pay about $50 a month, 1800 mg a day x 30 days.
You might try Single Care/Genius RX, $115 for 3 month supply, 900 mg a day. My insurance wanted $950. There seems to be a price difference between capsules and tablets on the Part D Medicare Plan with ElixirRX. I will be shopping a new plan!!
