Hi my friends,

In my previous dentist examination , I found out I had so many dental caries which is unexpected for my age😢😢 I know it’s related to dry mouth. Is there any way for us to prevent dental damage?

Hello. I use a moisturising mouthwash before I go to bed as I too had a lot of cavities due to dry mouth. The brand I use is Biotene. I get this from my dentist but it is also available at the chemist.

Yes it worked for me which is why I recommended it.

I’m no expert. You may want to get checked for Sjogrens . It is very common for the two diseases to run together. I have both. Do some research and decide if you need to get checked.

I think I must be checked for it. Also I cant smell anything

It can't hurt. The Sjogrens attacks the glands that make tears and saliva just like PBC attacks bile ducts. It can cause dry mouth which for me affects taste and smell. I hope you can get help. Average 6 years to be diagnosed for Sjogrens but if you have PBC, easier to ask for testing. The Schirmer's eye test is good.

Thank you I will ask for it in next appointment. Another question, what can I do for the smell sense? Is there any solution?

I wish I had an answer. Mine comes and goes. Food tastes "off". Your doctors should help you replenish your moisture, which should help.

I used very high fluoride toothpaste - I used Durafphat 5000. I think that it helped. Only on prescription in uk. William

Interesting 🧐 I know about the good effect of fluoride but didn’t found any fluride containing mouth wash. So I must look for the toothpaste. My dentist only suggested OralB mouth wash. But I alway get more helpful advices from my friends in this forum. Thank you for your answer 🙏🏻

I think that you might find it difficult to find any toothpaste without fluoride !! But 5000 is high. So I think that you can try something to sort out dryness and/or something to make teeth more resistant. The problem is that tooth decay is generally quite slow and it takes a while to discover what helps. I don't think there is a downside to high fluoride so worth a try. W

Not sure if you are a good candidate for sealants. I have them since my childhood.

Actually this is only for healthy teeth to make it easier to clean.

That’s so interesting I haven’t heard of it. Thank you for the information. But I think it might be too late for me😕😕

I did 2-3 of root treatment in previous days and there is also 3 other tooth awaiting treatment.

I got the sealants when I was around 10 or 11 years old.

Sorry that you are going through this.

Do you brush with an electric toothbrush? It cleans much better. I prefer the Sonicare brand. There is a timer on it & you brush your teeth in quadrants & it beeps you to move on to the next area.

Yes I use electric brush even before knowing my PBC. I was always taking care appropriately but unfortunately didn’t help. My husband is too lazy for brushing and spends only 1-2minutes on it, but there was no caries😂😂😂 and I feel so jealous
