Is doxycycline safe for dental infection if you have pbc?
Antibiotics : Is doxycycline safe for dental... - PBC Foundation
Antibiotics
I have taken doxycycline but for respiratory. We’d rather not but sometimes we have to. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic.
In my experience, most frequently prescribed antibiotic for dental infections is Amoxicillin. I've taken it at least 3 times since I was diagnosed with PBC (last three years). It's OK, if you take it occasionally. I'd certainly only take it, if it is absolutely necessary. I was taking for preventing an infection after the dental implants were installed and also, just now, for gum graft.
If you are very concerned, check with your doctor who follows you with PBC. Usually, when I have doubts about some meds, I check with my gastro (she is also my PBC doctor).
Good luck!
I was prescribed doxycycline for Pneumonia , the Doctor said it was better than the other antibiotics in terms of affecting the liver.
Sometimes we have to take antibiotics if there is an infection unfortunately.
Morning... Sorry to hear about you having to deal with a dental infection. Cannot be fun. I'm allergic to penicillin, and am NEVER given any of the "cillin" type drugs. Perhaps a little discussion with the doctor on this is in order. But on the whole, is it safe to take with our PBC, like others said, we sometimes have to take medications for other issues. Dental infection is nothing to fool around with. Bacteria can travel to the heart or brain if gone unchecked. Be well
Just read that Doxycycline falls into the tetracycline family and may be safer for those of us with the cillin allergies
ive just been given doxycycline for the second time after a recurring ear infection that doesn't respond to amoxicillin or ciproxicafin, ive taken it before and found no ill effects nor have I been told its not to with PBC
Hi I use doxycycline for most infections - dental, insect bites, sinus- I’m allergic to many others so it’s about the only one I can use
Thank you
