Is there any dr on this site that can provide their thoughts on whether a PBC patient should get a flu vaccine? I am really on the fence and need some advice. Thank you.

There have been a lot of posts on this subject, both for and against.

I have had the flu jab since it was first offered. I discussed it with my specialist at the time and his view was that the effects of flu on my system were worse than the effects ( if any) from having the jab. This was from the specialist who knew the results of my liver function tests so it is personal to me. I think it is something you should ask your Doctor or specialist so you get the best advice.

Hi there

The flue vaccine is recommended for people with liver disease and I have it every year with no side effects

As I said in my other post, my hepatologist recommends it & I trust him implicitly. You should check in with your own medical team to put your mind at ease as they know your specific medical history & needs.

I never had the flu jab before, apart from when I was pregnant. Having been diagnosed earlier this year I’ve now been called for one. People with underlying illnesses are more at risk. I don’t particularly want to have it but I’ve made the decision to go this week, I think it’s the right thing to do. We need to protect ourselves. 😊

Definately have it. Anything that protects you from a potentially very unpleasant illness on top of PBC is a good thing. I'm pretty sure the PBC foundation and the BLT advise having the vaccine. I've had it every year, I've never had any adverse reactions or problems.

All these things should be weighed up as risks verses benefits x
