Did anyone hear Radio 4 Book of the Week, last week? It featured The Remarkable Life of the Skin by Monty Lyman. I heard snippets while doing stuff around the house that had me so interested I got the book (Amazon, great when you have no energy to get to a bookshop). If you ever wonder what's going on under and over your skin, this is a good read and, to me, it's a good place to start to understand more much more about PBC, not least the itch. It is dedicated to "... the millions across the world who suffer in, or for, their skin" but it will interest much more widely.

SKIN DEEP...
Morning, I have just read the Times (on line) review for this book. Interested to read "Rosacea, for example, the inflammatory red facial condition, can be cleared by rebalancing intestinal bacteria."
I suffered with rosacea during the menopause which was when I started trying to balance my difficult symptoms and introduced a new diet which included probiotics. The rosacea disappeared and I am now long passed menopause so for me this is interesting that I incorrectly assumed that rosacea was another unpleasant symptom of menopause when in fact it may have had something to do with my gut bacteria.
I am not much of a reader of books so I doubt I will invest in the book however thank you for the share. I think it shows how important it is to treat ourselves as a whole rather than just treating the one symptom.
best wishes
butterflyEi - I was thinking of you while reading this book. It's only since the 2010's that much of what Lyman reports about the skin has been discovered. He shows how itch and bones and gut all are linked to the skin in ease and disease. And it was news to me that cats and dogs secrete a cholesterol-type oil which travels down their hair/fur when they rub and roll themselves. Then sunlight converts the oil to Vitamin D. The animal regularly licks its coat, (I thought to groom itself,) but actually getting vitamin D! You are very active. I understand not reading much. When I have no energy, I'm glad of a book. Lately I have been making kefir, milk and water-based, as well as Kombucha from Ninjagirlwebb recipe. If I can keep this up, I will never need lactulose...
