Does anyone know what sugar intake is for PBC?

Sugar Intake for pbc
Hi
I had to make major diet changes and one hard thing was cutting the sugar addiction.. I limit "added sugar" per day to 25 grams. ( btw- one 12 oz can of ginger ale has 30 grams! ). I read labels and so when I eat something with added sugar ( like ketchup has 4 grams of added sugar). I factor it in for daily amount..
Lots of yogurts are full of added sugar..I was shocked when I started reading labels..
anyway, once I weaned off - no frozen yogurt bars at night, no dark chocalate raison candies in the house ( I can't be trusted with it!) honestly now I don't have the driving craves.. ( it took a good 30 days to shut off the sugar craves)
If I go out with friends for dinner we share a couple desserts for the table and I have a spoonful or two and they all finish the rest! But I enjoy the bit I have and I'm not totally deprived.. I can budget part of my daily 25 grams of sugar for a treat..
Here's a good article on added sugar.,

Thank you so much that helps!
Oh good..glad you found it helpful. Lots of labels now specifically show Sugars and then in addition to that they will show how much is "added sugar"
But many labels still don't break out added sugars.
So for instance an 8oz cup of yogurt has 8 or 9 grams of sugar in the milk itself - that's not added sugar..
BUT if the ingredient "sugar" is listed on the ingredients and the total sugar listed is 16 grams (for a flavored sweetened yogurt) that means 8 grams of "added sugar" in the total sugar listed.
Anyway- the article does a good job.. it was a real eye opener for me reading labels! Here's a good article on yogurt and sugar..

Labelling! Such small print, so hard to read., and harder as time goes by? Sugar is in almost all processed food as a preservative and if not sugar then salt or oil and sometimes, the jackpot, all three? It isn't easy to eat healthily in time, cost, energy and plain old availability. Good wishes for getting sugar out of your diet Eileen.
for me personally the less sugar I have the better. when I have had a weekend of visitors with the inevitable apple or rhubarb crumble/pie plus other sweet treats I suffer the following week.
I roasted rhubarb today with only a teaspoonful of ginger cordial and 2 drops of rose water. I put it in a jar in the frig' to have just as a sweet/sour topping with anything. Food! Aren't we lucky to be able to choose from so much of so many tasty things?
My heptologist says, "use sugar like everything else, in moderation" In other words, don't eat a entire cake by yourself 🎂😘

I love that you call not eating a whole cake by yourself moderation - [] That's a really sweet thought Shannon. Best wishes
I will add that I have been "forced" to be sugar intake aware-- first in order to lose 18 lbs and then second my blood sugar has been hovering up at the top limit - pre diabetic.. So I am very motivated to not end up with diabetes and needing more medications.. just doing what I can but still trying to enjoy life.. I'm not perfect at it- I slip up- but I really don't want to add diabetes to my problems. I don't envy any of us with this PBC thing..
we're all finding our best way forward. Hugs
Everyone needs to cut down on sugar. There is more than enough invisible sugar in carbs etc to keep us going without adding extra. Liver trust just highlighted some research that shows the connection between sugar and fatty liver disease even in quite young children.
