Had blood work done this morning for a hepatologist appointment next week. Less than 3 hours later got a call from the Dr.'s office; high platelet count (I haven't seen the numbers yet). The recommendation is that I see a hematologist. Any one else have high platelet count? I checked and there were 40 blood tests done this morning.....I was only worried about ALP (was still over 500 after almost 9 months of Urso). Looking for experience with HIGH platelet count. I know my spleen is enlarged (slightly) and have had one swollen lymph node for almost a month. Thanks!

High Platelet count
The hematologist will run a battery of tests that are different from the hepatologist and theses results will reveal why it is happening. I was sent to a hematologist because a have something called a simple chain in my blood related to antibodies. This was picked up by my thyroid dr and the hematologists did extensive testing and although I do have this chain and excessive antibodies the ratio is still within normal . Bottom line, I have to see a hematologist once a year. So, don’t worry until you have to!
I have had elevated platelet count before and it was due to an infection. My cat had scratched me and I developed swollen lymph nodes and also had fever. The antibiotics took care if the fever and the infection but it took a while to get my platelets down and the doctor said it was due to the infection.
Platelet count is at a "critical" level. Hepatologist (from the regional medical center) suggested a referral to a hematologist--somehow that has changed to an Oncologist. There are 2 Hematologist/oncologist specialists at my local clinic--but the referral isn't for me to see either of them......now I'm very worried. My ALP has also gone up to 580---seems like I just can't get a break!
Hi, I did have high platelet counts for years and my gastro said it was because of the PBC. I had to transfer to a different gastro doctor and he did more tests and put me on aspirin. After about 7 years I was sent to an oncologist and the high platelets were a sign of a slow growing blood cancer called Polycythemia Vera so was put on a cancer drug. Maybe you should get your doctor to check further to rule it out. Best wishes Doreen
