Lifting

I will ask my dr Thursday, but does anyone know if we have restrictions on lifting? I’m thinking if applying for a job with Postal Service & they ask if you can lift up to 30 lbs.

Hi, I think if your general health is up to it, lifting is going to be more relevant to your core strength and bone health (e.g. DEXA score). How are you for both those?

Best wishes

I personally feel I’m okay but haven’t had the DEXA, which I have been reminded by my dr. Not familiar with core strength?

Actually DEXA is important to track for pbc patients. We are more susceptible to osteoporosis risks than the general population. It was one of the first tests ordered by my hepatologist upon pbc diagnosis to establish a base line for comparison.

Yes, & my dr wanted me to have it last year & I haven’t had it yet. He’s just waiting on me. I do know it’s very important. 🤗🦋

Mayo Clinic has a link with core strengthening exercises. Good idea!

Great! core muscles encircle your body and help protect your back etc, so good policy anyway to keep them strong. DEXA scans matter most for ladies after menopause but also if you've taken corticosteroids (e.g. Prednisone).

Good luck on the job! 😊

My baby is 27 pounds and I pack him around all the time. Noone has ever given me any restrictions, but you may want to ask your doctor. It might be different for everyone.

I can lift but wanting to be sure it doesn’t cause strain to the liver. Thanks!😊

I am now 67 and am still lifting the holiday suitcase which can sometimes be over 30lbs but then I have an incentive:-)

If you go for the job do they give you a course in lifting? If not there are some good video clips on You Tube for safe lifting.

Hope you get the job if it is right for you, in previous pictures you look well and fit. Good luck.

Thank you butterrflyEi...I’m 64, small but feel I’m fairly strong. Yes, if they hire, they do put you through training. it would be a great opportunity for me. I appreciate your encouragement. 🦋

Hi core strength can be improved by some Pilates exercises the important issue is how to lift and carry loads. They should train you on this when you get the job otherwise Google Manual Handling it will help. You may find the exertion doesn't help with the PBC fatigue. Good luck.

G’morning Biddyb...I haven’t submitted my app just yet. They do have training class if hired. As far as fatigue , I have been fortunate to not have it. Thank you so much😊

G’morning shaza1966...I’m doing well, thank you. Pretty sure I’m clear on high b/p, except in drs office. White coat hypertension, lol! Happens most every time. 😅have a great day!

That happens to me too! Then I closed my eyes, think of the beach & the reading comes back to normal. Otherwise, it is off the charts.

Mine was so high at one visit several years ago, my dr had me chart it at home for a month & bring to him. Perfectly normal. 😀
