Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for all those who replied, read, or liked my previous post, Fasting and PBC.
I have gone to my GI and I also asked pretty knowledgeable people and doctors about this to make sure, and they all seem to agree that it is better not to fast when you suffer PBC. The fasting I'm talking about here, is a religious fast for the month of Ramadan, where you don't eat or drink from sun rise to sun set. So I'm not discussing a fluid fast, or a certain detox to reset the immune system.
With that said, the doctors would leave it up to the patient though, as they do not want to give a firm solid NO, but they tell you, dehydration is not good for you, skipping your medication is not good for you, as well as, throwing the already weak liver off balance by not eating all day, then resuming again at night.
This fast is only mandatory for healthy adults, so medical exemptions are there, and it is actually strongly advised against to fast Ramadan if one is sick.
I promised I would come back here and tell you what my doctor said, so there it is. But of course, every person is different, and they should be asking their own doctor/specialist about their own particular case. This is information specific to myself as I have been doing research on this for weeks.
Thank you all for being my new and best support system :).
I wish you all the best health!
Cheers.
