Off tomorrow to see a different consultant (armed with 3 pages of questions thanks to the pbc foundation)

Lots of questions about my pbc but mainly want to know why I may need a liver biopsy ( other liver bloods are high ? ) only second visit as at first was given pbc diagnosis and told to go home and google it ! Let's hope this consultant is a little better 🙄

Hi Louisethew. Amazing the difference between doctors and consultants. My GP is generally great. Sorted out all the relevant blood tests when all I said was I was a bit tired. Eventually came back with the good news (not!), but he also said to google it. I'm not sure that most doctors appreciate how scary the internet can be for newbies - hard to get a reality check as opposed to all the terrifying stuff. Luckily for me I found the PBC Foundation and HealthUnlocked quite quickly so it gave me a better sense of what I was potentially facing and the nature of the condition. Are you in the US? I only ask because it seems to be pretty par for the course for a biopsy to be carried out as opposed to here in the UK where they use other diagnostic tools like a firbroscan. Good luck with it anyway and good luck with your 3 pages! Stay well. Adele

Good luck with your second opinion always ask plenty of questions jot them down when you think of them. I had a biopsy done a couple of years ago which was inconclusive but the specialist at the time still put me on steroids unnecessarily that was my final straw and my GP on my request refered me to a guy in Manchester who is really helpful. Good luck don't be palmed off.
