Does anyone have experience of applying for life assurance/insurance cover and declaring a PBC problem?
I am still under investigation and apart from that and being hypothyroid, I'm quite well - but am potentially needing to take out a policy......what do you think my chances are?

Tricky as you'll find that most won't entertain you or want to charge a ridiculous sum of money.
Back in early 2010 I started itching. December 2010 I was diagnosed with PBC aged 46. I had over the years since aged 18 had my own life cover and had current cover at the time I was daignosed. I contacted my insurance company to inform them I had PBC though there was no need as I took out the cover when there was nothing wrong with me. The insurance policy had 2yrs left on it when I was diagnosed. I got a call back from the insurance company after they checked with their underwriters. Yes I was covered under the policy but once it was at the end they would no longer be able to cover me by renewal.
I did get quotes from other companies when my policy was about to expire but it was either a case of didn't want to know or wanted to charge high premiums. One company quoted me £75 per month for a low amount of cover. My husband only pays £5 per month for high cover currently so I thought it was a bit much.
I waited until I was aged 50 to take out the over 50s life insurance that basically will cover funeral costs. I did take one out with Asda for £5 per month and had it almost 3yrs now. I then took out another one with another company the following year so have 2 lots of cover but still pay ove double my husband does for what I consider very little cover.
If you do want quotes you might find now that PBC can be down as the original terminology (Primary Biliary Cirrhosis) what I was diagnosed with or the supposed new name change (I don't agree with), Primary Biliary Cholangitis. Either way I doubt it will make a difference as the symptons and what PBC can lead to won't change.
Out of interest too I've no mortgage on my home as it was paid up in the yr 2000. I doubt now even though my husband has a good full-time job and is a bit younger than I (he is 49 this year to my 53) I'd get any sort of cover if we were to remortgage or take out a new mortgage now.
Annoying that I'd never had any problems until I was diagnosed with PBC and always had cover, doesn't seem to count for much with insurance companies. I find it bizarre against car insurance how that works and life insurance.
I was turned down. I am now in appeal with the dr saying I've been stsyecobe for 22 years

I am in the UK. Here we have over 50s life insurance. Basically you choose your cover and it tends to be maily for funeral costs but you can have as many policies as you like (I have 2 wsith 2 diff companies) and you choose the cost you can contribute monthly. If you stop payments the cover is expired but you just continue paying in.
The over 50s does not involve a medical hence low cover. I still find it annoying that from aged 18 I had life cover continuously over the years (even had additional when I was a young widowed mother of two until my youngest reached aged 18) but then found myself no longer able to get good cover I always had so waited 18mths until I reached 50 to take out the over 50s.
