Been told I have pbc positive blood tests had a scan and it showed a bright liver and kidney scarring. Does this mean I have pbc
Pbc: Been told I have pbc positive blood... - PBC Foundation
Pbc
Talk to your Dr, only they can confirm it. X
I would also talk to the advisors at the 'PBC Foundation' (link to their website at top of page, with contact details), as they can help to fill you in on all the details required for a positive diagnosis.
An ultrasound scan cannot diagnose PBC, although it can show large scale scarring of the liver, but I don't know about the relevance of kidney scarring to PBC.
The blood tests of:
1 - the presence of AMAs), and
2 - abnormal liver function blood tests, can confirm PBC; but both are needed.
There are other liver conditions ... so it depends which of the liver blood tests are abnormal - if they are. Try to get a copy of all your results, your GP's receptionist should be able to give you a copy if you have not already been given one (there may be a small charge - ask) . This is why you need to talk to someone who knows the wider picture, as well as trying to learn as much as possible while you are at it. So read around on the 'PBC F' site, and on here, and do talk to the 'PBC F' people.
Hope this helps, take care.
