Hello janine541.

I think you have what is known as PBC/AIH what's known as 'crossover'.

I've only got PBC. AIH is featured in a leaflet on British Liver Trust site (as are other liver disorders) so you might find some info there.

If your blood work is showing normal range I think perhaps you'll just be monitored for any changes. I've previously read in Bear Facts regarding PBC that there seems a bit of conflict as to when a patient should start the ursodeoxycholic acid (I take one called Destolit 150mgs, have since December 2010). I had higher than normal range liver funciton test (LFTs) and GGT (one used in liver problems) prior to being diagnosed (I started itching early 2010) so I started on the urso as soon as I was disgnosed.

Fatigue as you mentioned being tired is one of the common symptons along with itching (pruritis) of PBC and apparently a liver condition. Some of us encounter both (I did during 2010 but at some point during 2011 I didn't seem to have the fatigue, itching has continued) whereas some of us just have one and some don't have either. It's said that these 2 symptons are of no significance to how we are with the PBC.

I was working full-time and long hours back in 2010 and know what it is like to drag yourself to work daily when there's something not right and unfortunately I can't really say what might be best to do regarding you having to get up and do your 2 jobs.

As far as I understand taking the urso won't resolve the itch nor fatigue. For some it can improve how they are overall as it must have done for me after starting it as it did start to greatly improve my bloods and they started to drop rapidly in the beginning. I have read on here that the itch can vanish but it seems to be a rare occurrence. My itch has lessened since the urso and it seems to be confined to later at night, causes broken sleep through the night but it's not like it was during 2010 and msot of 2011.

Contact the PBC Foundation (they host this site on 'Health unlocked' ), see link to their site at top of this page, with phone and email details, and lots of info. You don't have to be a member to talk, but if you do join - it's free - you will get more info to keep, as well as links to all other info on site.

This doesn't sound very understanding from your GP, can you see another one in the practice? But get all your info and results from the practice receptionist, first. There may be a charge if some of it is old - ask first - but it's your 'right' in the NHS to have copies of all results and letters from PBC consultants etc. But do talk to the 'PBC F' people, first, and be as informed as possible before tackling.

Hi

I am just at the middle stage for PBC/AIH diagnosis and have my biopsy next week. I hope that treatment will be given if mine is a positive diagnosis cus I'm sure there is something going on other than the usual PBC problems.i work full time and struggle with the endless stomach and leg pain that is driving me mad

X
