ok, need help. I have found that there is no other medication for the pbc. my husband was diagnosed with it a few years back. we have been paying a arm and a leg for this ursodiol. it is going up this year as well. so my husband was in the hospital a year or two ago, and the doctors said there was nothing wrong with his liver and why was he taking it? the doc that prescribed it did a biopsy and said he had it. I think at this point I am going to get a second opinion. we are on ss and cant afford this stuff. my husband has never drank alcohol but they say you can get it anyway. he is 73. so I think if anything is going to put him under at this point would be me! LOL! anybody know of anything else he could take?

Yes, there is another drug for PBC...Ocaliva. I do know it’s very expensive. I take it. Who said there are no other meds?

the doctor, but I found it in the pill form, and he got a script for it and it is the same as we have been paying

Was he diagnosed only by biopsy or did he have lab results to confirm?

I am on the liver Foundation Facebook & someone posted a link for assistance. I will see if I can get that for you.

Well, for prescriptions have you tried Good RX? Also, look up The Assistance Fund. They will help pay for prescriptions for people on limited income. If I were you I would consider taking copies of his labs and his biopsy report to a hepatolagist and get advice from him. PBC doesn't go away as far as I know so you need to be careful about your decisions going forward.

Good luck!

Its awful that these meds are so expensive in US they are not expensive here in ireland or in other EU countries

Its obvious urso is doing the job when your husbands liver is still good

Hope he can find a way to continue taking urso
