my results took about 6 weeks and i was told severe PBC I asked about staging and just got a blank look so can't help with that, i later had a fibroscan and it was 19.4 that works out to F4 on the scale but told i only have fibrosis, so working it out for myself i suppose that means i am stage 4 now.
"is this now PBC?" - if you were diagnosed with PBC then it has always been PBC. The first link is to the Pbcers.org website explaining the Stages of PBC. While there is usually an overlap of stages as the condition progresses Fibrosis is generally thought of as Stage 3.
The way i understand it, Fibrosis is not a disease, but rather refers to the scarring on the liver as it tries to repair itself from the injury caused by PBC. I guess with PBC, our livers can not regenerate as it can from many other liver injuries. As the scar tissue builds, and covers a large portion of the liver, cirrohosis results, which i have. I believe there are 4 stages of cirrohosis. On a hopeful note, people live for years with cirrohosisi before requiring a transplant. My biopsy results came back in 4 days. I think the timing of the results depends on the facility. I am being treated at Northwestern Memorial in Chicago. The biopsy itself was fast and painless. Recovery lasted about 2 hours, lying still, which was no problem, i didn't want to move! I was awake for the procedure, and yikes, went out to dinner that evening with friends! I wish you all the best
Just had my biopsy yesterday and it was a piece of cake no pain today at all been out of bed just not twisting or bending and no picking up my 4 month old which has been the hardest part so far, i wouldnt worry about the biopsy i was terrified and then it was done and i felt just about nothing a tiny burn when the lidocaine needle was in and that was it! I was even brave enough to watch the whole thing and see the specimen they got. You will be fine! As for results i was told 2-7 days so im still waiting more worried about tesults for sure.
