UK Disabled Parking Badge

Any PBC'ers out there in the UK applied for one of these? I have good days and bad days, so have hesitated to apply for one. I haven't yet seen the forms, but I believe that it can be quite lengthy to complete. Any advice gratefully received

Hi masc0t

I needed a badge for my mother who was in her eighties and suffering with dementia. A woman from the local Age UK office helped me with the form. She said that you want to think of your worse day so that you can still get out and about. When my mum moved in with me we had to reapply which I tried to do on line only to get an immediate refusal. Another woman from a different local group to me came at my request for some help and whilst visiting filled out another disabled badge request. It seems that you are more likely to have a successful request when supported by an official or professional bod. Unfortunately the misuse of disabled badges by thoughtless members of our society have made it more difficult to obtain a blue badge. Hope you manage to get one.

Best wishes

I have had a blue badge for about 9 years because of PBC. If you put down on the form the worst days where you are so tired it's an effort to walk and your legs hurt to walk far. Good luck

Remember its about your worst days so put that on the form.if you have bowels problems or anythimg else make sure you include it.make sure you see if you can find out the criteria for gettimg one and that you get your problems down clearly enough to fit these guidelines.

We all know that its possible to make pbc symptoms sound very minor but they are not.

I use words such as extreme fatigue and pain to try and get the message across.

Good luck we all deserve anything that can help us with this grotty condition.

Best wishes cazer.

Is it just a form now? do they not do a physical assessment as well? I know they used too!

If you have DLA, you can get a blue badge automatically, which applies to my husband.

If not, your form is assessed by an Occupational Therapist.

I have a collection of medical conditions including a bad back, pbc, COPD. The therapist contacted me by phone and the deciding criteria seemed to be level of pain on bad days, not the chronic fatigue/tiredness.

I live in Scotland.

Hi, I got told PBC is not classed as a disability . Like most sufferers I get good and bad days, I hope you get lucky..

Trying to get a blue badge isn't easy, apparently as you say the form is lengthy but if you could possibly get your GP or even better your consultant this helps with the decision.xx

Getting a blue badge is very difficult and it is all to do with your walking ability. How far you can walk and how long it takes you. I would be very surprised if you get it for pbc alone. You would have to have other disabilities.
