Hi,

I saw a liver specialist recently and as well as been put onto Ursodeoxycholic acid I have been recommend to get Co-enzyme Q10.

I just wondered if anyone else is taking that - any comments on makes of it and anything else.

Thank you

Uitlander

I have taken it for years and don't dare to stop it as I have lots of energy and wonder if it is because take it!

My specialist knows I take it and has never commented on the fact.Perhaps I have been doing something good without knowing it.

Why don't you try it for a few months and see how you get on. I buy my own.

Which one do you buy? Keep looking but so many end up not getting it but know it would be good to try.

I buy Ubiquinol it's easy to absorb by pharm nord 😊

Hi Uitlander. I've never heard of Co-enzyme Q10. Interesting that Oidra puts her energy down to that. I'd be interested too to hear about it's purpose and use. I'm wary of taking anything not prescribed and my stage of PBC hasn't been diagnosed yet so I don't want to take anything that might impact without the go ahead from my liver specialist. Hope it works for you...whatever it does! Adele

Having suffered from chronic fatigue due to pbc for 17 years I'm always looking for something that will help my energy levels. A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and we've been doing a lot of research. What we discovered was very interesting. It seems that in all autoimmune diseases there is dysfunctional mitochondria which are the source of energy supply in every body cell. Personally I've also taken statins for 15+ years which depletes your coenzyme Q10. I started taking 200mgs Ubiquinol 4 weeks ago and must say I feel a bit better. I will reduce the dose to a maintenance dose in a few months.

Good luck and let me know 😊

I take 1 Co Q 10 after breakfast with my 3 Ursofalk. At the moment it is 30 mg from Nature's Best but have also had the same from Holland and Barratt.

interesting - i was told not to take Urso with any other medication as it can stop that medication working and to take my other medication at a different time so Urso is with supper and the other meds are in the morning.

thanks for the information on dosage and manufactures and source of purchase.

take care

:)

Hi there thought this might interest you but if like me your fatigue or use of statins been going on a long time then I was told by health shop that 30mgs isn't worth taking.......that dose is only for healthy people.......just something you might want to consider......I currently take 200mgs 😊

I do take Co-Q-10 as pbc can cause vit.D deficiencies. Mine was only slightly low. However taking vit D supplements has better absorption rates when taking Co Q 10.

Hi, I don't take Q10 but my partner does to help his cholesterol and thinks it's brilliant. I take 1000mg of krill oil a day and my energy levels have increased threefold since taking it.

I have to be very careful with krill or fish oil as it is also a blood thinner and i get bleeding under the skin in my forearms. Just a caution to any one with bleeding problem .

I take 200 mg co-Q10 at lunch and take the urso with breakfast and dinner. I do so since I also take a statin to help manage cholesterol. I just use the brand from Sams Club. I'm glad to learn that it helps with vitamin D absorption.

I'll definitely be asking my consultant in a few weeks - it sounds just what I need! Glad it works for a few of you. I've been eating more almonds recently to help with the raised cholesterol that appears to go hand in hand with PBC. But if C-Q10 helps too then it'd be a double positive. Definitely worth pursuing. Thanks for the info.

Thats funny you say that as i contributed my inability to absorb fat to my pbc. My good cholesterol is high and my bad is very low. It always has been, and i love my butter, eggs and meats.

Hi Wilmahair. Well I always had low cholesterol. So much so that when I asked my Dr for a cholesterol check he said it wasn't worth it given my history and the fact my diet and lifestyle hadn't changed. It was only when we ended up with the PBC diagnosis and my liver specialist additional test results that I saw it had shot up. Maybe I'm wrong in linking the two things but it was a bit of a coincidence.

No don't be sorry. I was only amassed that that could happen. Good to be aware of these things. A few years ago a Dr was trying to scare me into loosing weight and was hoping my cholesterol would be up. The disappointment in his face was fun to see.

My gastro has told me that pbc people tend to get high cholesterol.

I did get told that too but since then I got back into doing some fitness training and it's gone back to normal.... so for me I can't blame the PBC, although it would have been 'convenient' for me if that was the case - but nope exercise was required. In a way that's a good thing, hard work, but still within my power to manage. Just need to work on mildly fatty liver now!!

I have taken it for years. I started off at 30mg per day and now I take 100mg per day and I don't get the fatigue that others speak about. Also, my dentist has told me recently that research has shown that taking Co Enzyme Q10 is good for your gums as well.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experience! I will be trying CoQ10 ASAP. The fatigue is the worst part for me.
