frozen shoulder
Sadie, I have more or less exactly the same, I have two what they call frozen shoulders, stiff toes and ankles, pain in leg and hip joints and a fractured spine that throws itself out regularly. Most painkillers have a bad effect on me and make me feel sick, Tramadol put's me in a world of my own. I just take valium to relax when and if I really really need one, at the moment my knees are joining the party as well. I just plop down in my soft computer chair and stay there as long as I can as it's my most comfortable place. i am not happy but not a lot I can do about it.
Sadie, I get pains in my back and neck but the worst is my wrists, arms, hips, knees and ankles. I still take co-proxamol but get topped up with tramadol. None of which really cures the pain. I was recently in hospital for a knee operation and my consultant informs me that my muscles are beginning to waste away in my legs. He suggests I exercise more. This is difficult because of the pain and as soon as I start walking the pains increase in my legs. I go to Thai Chi every week and by the end of each session I am very tired and in agony. Very difficult.
I have two ops for frozen shoulder in 2010 and 2013. No shoulders left to operate on now. Surgeon said it may be down to PBC as it is common with diabetes (which I don't have). I sympathise with you. It's so painful. Try heat pads. X
I have had a painful shoulder for 4 years, making some movement difficult and sleeping on it painful. My Gp referred me to a orthopaedic consultant and when he took a medical history off me he said it could be due to my Pbc.......referred pain means that you experience pain in another part of your body from initial inflammation. The classic one is shoulder tip pain and inflamed gallbladder.
It's worth mentioning that although the shoulder was treated with cortisone injections it still remains a problem so I've just learnt to live with it, understanding that my Pbc is preventing complete recovery.
Take care
I have had two frozen shoulders i.e. one each side. I have a mishapen Acromium which is the bone over the shoulder so the tendons rub and get irritated. I went to an Orthopaedic surgeon each time and had a cortizone injection. It was majic, he knew exactly where to put it and the pain was gone instantly. I now take great care about how much I use my arms above horizontal and can keep the pain at bay. It is possible to xray the area these days so that is a way to find out just what is happening in there. It could just be fibromyalgia type pain or it might be something else.
My right shoulder is frozen and have been having deep tissue massage/physio session and some acupuncture. Both have helped albeit the shoulder is still frozen. My left shoulder was frozen 6 years ago prior to my PBC diagnosis. However, I was very ill at the time. I undertook deep tissue massage and gradually over several months I regained full use of my shoulder/arm again. This time is taking longer.
I am a massage therapist and I would highly recommend finding a massage therapist in your area who foes trigger point therapy or neuromuscular therapy
hi at the moment I have pain in upper left arm and lower back and right groin pain doctor thought after blood test I could have polymyalgia rheumatica and wanted to start me on steroids I refused at the moment been to see an osteopath he thought shoulder was rotor cuff injury and lower back was a bulging disc didn't associate these pains with pbc now reading comments I wonder if its all down to my autoimmune conditions I also have sjogrens ,systemic sclerosis and raynauds! sorry about spelling. any thoughts please.
Yes I have had Adhesive Capsolitus in my left shoulder. I could not raise my arm hardly at all. The specialist told me it was yet another autoimmune issue. After 3 months of PT I started to regain movement. It is completely recovered now. Sad thing is he said it can come back any time. I have type II Diabetes as well and other autoimmune issues including PBC.
