Hi

The itch does not come in ant particular area. I have it on my shoulders and back. This makes little spots of blood where I have scratched it in the night. It seems to come on itchy at the end of the day as well.. However I read a lot of people get the itch on their legs.

I don't get the itch often and since treatment not really at all but used to be my shins. There wasn't a rash as such unless I caused it by scratching. I do have other allergies and can get rashes from that. You really should get it checked if not sure

Hi, My itch is in the head and neck area, sometimes worse than others. It seems to be worse at night when I'm in bed but when I first started having symptoms a couple of years ago I was itching in various places, back, stomach, arms etc. It does seem to come and go, so hopefully it won't always be there. I suppose it could be the heat when you're lying in bed.. Take care.

Hello boneytoys.

The first known sympton I had of PBC was when I started itching in early 2010. That was the year I spent having blood checks and scan and then seeing a hospital consultant to getting via AMA blood test a diagnose Dec 2010 of PBC.

My itching has continued throughout with very little respite. In the earlier days of taking urso I did get a week of relatively little itching but for some

time I've not been that lucky. Some nights as that is the only time I tend to be very itchy (start around 9p.m. feeling prickly, by 11p.m. know I am itching!), I do get it mild, others notso.

The itch has never been confined to one area of my body but I do tend to find my legs from my knees down to my toes tend to suffer at night. I also get the odd itchy arms from my hands to my elbow crook.

Due to the itch being caused by bile salts, figures really that with used bile travelling via the bloodstream and leaking out (my theory is that these salts then react with the tiny nerve endings thus causing the itch), can be on any part of the body really.

I know the itch I describe as touching nettles or being hit by a wasp. Some describe the feeling as bugs drawling beneath the skin.

The irritating thing I find is that in then itching as it seems a normal reaction to do with the sudden oncoming is that scratching doesn't seem to really relieve it. In then itching where you feel itchy, it seems to move elsewhere on the body!

I find that by keeping myself cold (a bit difficult at the moment, started with the hot flushes as I know that I am now going through the change), I do feel that bit more of a relief as direct heat seems to start the prickles.

Normally there is nothing visible to see where you are itching. No rashes or bumps I find. I tend to find we can make it visible by causing tiny cuts on the skin by itching.
