I've been reading all of the posts having found this site online. I know very little about this condition but reading the posts has helped quite a lot. I had the itch about a year ago but no longer have that. Have seen a consultant and was prescribed Urso who said it was my decision to take it or not. I also have nausea which comes and goes. Any advice please regarding the medication . Thank you

I was diagnosed Jan 2013 and also put on Urso, 300 x 3 - so close to your prescription.
It seems to me the various stages of liver failure, the varying symptoms (that do not seem to be tied to stage of disease) that in all of this mayhem, the one thing I sense is that Urso has little or no side effects, and is known to slow down progression - If true, take it is my advice.

My advice would be to take the Ursodiol. I've had the disease for 20+ years and I believe it will slow the progression down. I'm used it for 10 years now. My liver looks normal and has no scarring as of yet. You're upset stomach might be from GERD. A lot of people with PBC have these types of problems also. When I took as much as 1500mg it did upset my stomach, so I backed down to 1000mg a day.

Urso is prescribed at 10-15mgs per kilo of body weight so the dose your prescribed depends on your weight. I like you was prescribed 750mgs daily initially I took it in 3 divided doses like you but then as I had to take Questran Light for the itch my consultant told me I could take all 3 tablets at the one time because the Questran can interfere with the absorption of other drugs. I took the Urso for 10yrs and dont recall having an major side effects from it. I did find my itch got worse in 2011 when I was incresed to 4 tabs a day (1000mgs). I am currently off Urso since last August (you can read my reason for this if you click on my icon and read my last post) and although am feeling very well my LFTS are very elevated which would indicate my liver does not like not being on it. My advice therefore would be that you take it and keep a diary on how you get on being on it and keep a record of your LFTs whilst on it. Best of luck.
