Hi All,

I think this is a new addition to PAS Personal Stories.

pernicious-anaemia-society....

It was interesting to read the varying experiences of others who have submitted stories.

There were several about young people including this one below.

Thanks Sleepybunny, that's one I can take to my doctor for reference about injection frequency. I respect everyone's opinion and individual requirements, I don't expect my doctor would. This is a tricky disease that hopefully I will get under control, soon, I hope.

The variety of symptoms initially presented makes it difficult for a GP to immediately identify B12 deficiency as a cause. You can even see why depression might occur to a GP first.

But it is interesting that the feelings of exhaustion and of deterioration, of dying, is not seen as depression by patients - that a strong belief in a physical cause remains. My own GP offered me antidepressants three times. I kept refusing, knowing something was being missed or misinterpreted.

No easy pinpoint to be found that would help a GP. How to put B12 deficiency further to the forefront of tests and investigation - for GPs without much training in this field ?

Delays in starting treatment and reducing/stopping treatment can have such awful consequences.

Don't know whether to feel affirmed or shocked that a medical professional was so badly treated and their experience dismissed. The feeling of impending death seems to be mentioned quite often in advanced PA, I had it myself and surely it's ts something that shouldn't be ignored? Glad to hear he's still well at 83, and functioning at such a high level. Thankyou for sharing.
