I have been advised to take Methylcobalamin as a supplement to support my B12 injections as this has all round Co factor ingredients. Has anyone else taken this? I haven’t started yet as they haven’t arrived and am wondering if the B12 injections I have had up to yet will still be effective?
Invaluable advice thank you .. - Pernicious Anaemi...

I assume that you are talking about Methylcobalamin tablets ? If you are having injections because you can’t absorb B12 in the gut , then tablets will likely not benefit you . But anyhow they will not interfere in the slightest with your Hydroxocobalamin B12 injections
. Some patients who cannot absorb vitamin B12 in the gut can sometimes benefit to a small degree from sub-lingual B12 Methylcobalamin lozenges, or Methylcobalamin mouth/ nose spray , so it’s worth a try .
Cofactors for vitamin b12 are generally considered to be folic acid, iron and pyridoxine. Methylcobalamin is another form of vitamin b12.It won't do any harm to take methylcobalamin, but unless the tablets you take contain some of the other three, they won't help with the factors to make vitamin b12 work.
I know my b12 works best when i have some folic acid and pyridoxine (max 20mg/day) as well. My iron levels are very good, so I don't need that.
Methylcobalamin is a type of B12... it isn't a cofactor for injections.. and it won't do you much good if you are having B12 injections due to absorption issues. You may absorb a tiny proportion via passive diffusion but it will be minimal Methylcobalamin can also cause anxiety in some people.
The cofactors required for B12 are folate and iron.... you need a good level of folate..15+ and ferritin 100+ .( levels under 100 can cause symptoms ) .. B6 is also required in small amounts..
Vitamin D also needs to be optimal.
Strangely, I started doing the same thing 2 weeks ago. I am due to have my 4weekly hydroxocobalamin injection on Thursday and will also get a blood count test done as I had a very bad experience in using neo cytamen nearly 4 weeks ago - it was horrific . I’ll update you after blood count test results return to me.
Do you mean a complete B complex? A high quality B complex contains methylcobalamin, folate (or methyl folate) and all the other B’s.
. Having PA you most certainly won’t absorb the methylcobalamin but will absorb all the other co-factors. It’s definitely important to have the co-factors in conjunction with your B12 injections.
