For over twenty years I have suffered with malabsorption following a number of surgeries to remove diseased bowel (I have Crohn's Disease). The last time I had my bowel resected one of the surgical team told me that I would need B12 supplements but nothing ever came of it for some years. Then I started to receive intermittent B12 injections, usually 3 monthly which did help boost my energy levels for 3-4 weeks then I would relapse, often blaming the Crohn's. One GP I saw moved me onto 2 monthly injections but that was soon reverted back to 3 monthly when an inexperienced and 'Know it all' young community nurse insisted on me having my levels checked and as by this point I was buying the very expensive Hydroxocobalamin injections from the internet for monthly administration, the levels came back as normal. Then back in April this year I received a text message from my GP practice advising me that I was to be switched to tablet form due to the pandemic. I was issued with a prescription which couldn't be filled by any of my local pharmacists due to a national shortage and on discussing this with my partner it dawned that the tablets wouldn't be any good anyhow as I do not absorb. I mentioned this to my surgeon during a telephone consult and she was very concerned by this but abstained from pushing the matter due to the C19 outbreak. It was then on researching this further I discovered the PAS website and forums and found out so much info about B12 and PA . So I want to say thank you to the PAS and its members as since finding you I have been able to have an informed conversation with a GP who has now prescribed hydroxocobalamin for me to self inject on a 2 monthly basis, however had to do it in such a way that none of her colleagues would notice it and question it as being against practice policy, I have also been able to order from Germany hydroxocobalamin ampoules for injection, which are so cheap and arrived in 3 days. I am currently having loading dose injections every other day for a couple of weeks and am half way through. I must say I am already feeling the benefits of increased energy, better sleep and a general feeling of improved health which historically I had not felt and had always put down to the Crohn's disease. I'm am so lucky that my partner takes a huge interest in my health and does my im injections for me, he has also started a loading dose regime as he's been suffering with fatigue and many of the other symptoms of PA for the past couple of years and appears to have more energy and a sense of wellness about him. So again I say a massive THANK YOU to PAS and its members for improving my quality of life!

So glad you got it sorted. How ridiculous prescribing tablets for you.
Hoping you will really benefit.
I'm new here and battling a newly discovered B12 deficiency. This group and people have been a godsend for me.
That's a reassuring result for you.I am prompted to suggest, though, that you need to check that you are keeping up with your cofactors.
