Symptoms returning in spite of b12 jab

Hello everyone, anyone had similar? I've had a chest infection for 6 weeks, ended up on antibiotics. I had my 10 weekly jab at the surgery 2 weeks ago but still felt exhausted, gastric issues returned and painful knees, hips and thumb joints which I think are a reaction to the infection. I have just given myself an injection of b12 in the hope it will help. Thank you, I just needed a moan as well!!

I need more B12 when my body coping with a virus or dental work needing antibiotics.

Thanks nackapan. It just seems never ending at times!! I found it hard when I asked if I could have more frequent injections only to be told " you don't need them". Often doctors have their own agenda rather than looking at the person abd their symptoms

I agree .My surgery revised mine recently. Taking away my repeat prescription.

The reason when pushed .

Safety !

The advise they sought from a haematology online support said.;

My B12 2 weekly prescription will cause no harm.

So answered the safety concern!!

In 6+ years they had 2 neurologists condone the frequency too.

I feel they are hoping for a NO every time.

Or perhaps just covering their backs ..

Yes constantly being told to have less would be better ,you can't help at times to question it yourself .

It's the utilisation of any b12 stored in the liver that's misunderstood.

I also agree it's never ending.

I get weary trying to explain ongoing symptoms and b12 is a maintenence not a cure for most .

Thats not only to doctors !!

All the more reason we should forget this never ending battle and put all efforts into making B12 over the counter.

Oh yes. I think prescriptions easily got should help this though.

Thd scale of need more known .

More training

That will happen before otc considered 🤔

I always need an extra injection when I have an illness

Thank you both for your replies. I admire your tenacity Nacapan, no mean feat when you are feeling so unwell.

I hope your extra injection helps you, but don't be frightened to have more if that's what your body needs. Any extra stress - emotional, physical or mental- will naturally require more energy and subsequently more B12, besides all the other healing processes requiring the magical cobalamin! I was extremely ill at the end of 2023 and was treated disgracefully by the staff at the practice whenever I presented for more B12. I told my GP that I refuse to endure that indignity again and have only recovered because I now self inject based on what my body needs..... multiple times a day if required! We know it is safe to do so.

Thanks Disews. I wish I had known my b12 was dropping. My problems all began after a hysterectomy and surgical menopause 25 years ago.!! Thanks to the forum I am aware of nitrosoxide in anaesthetic and taking charge of my own health. Take care.

I had hysterectomy 25 years ago.when nitrosoxide was commonly used. I had complications so was anaesthetised for 4 hours. I recovered well from the op but then crashed 6 weeks later. I have struggled for 20 years with neurological and gastric issues alongside debilitating fatigue.till I got b12 deficiency diagnosis. It is only this past 3 years when I started getting 10 weekly injections (after a fight with GP)! And obtaining my own b12 supply to self inject. I order from Apohealth. Wedgwood is wonderful at providing information about self injecting.look at her posts.Hope your mum gets appropriate treatment. Best wishes

Nitrous oxide depletes b12 as do anti acids like omprazamole .Alcohol

Other drugs deplete b12 .

Hormonal changes.

After giving birth levels drop sometimes the cause of ante natal depression

Age and less stomach acid

The list goes on ...

You didn't take Levaquin by chance for the infection, did you? Because that could cause the symptoms you describe.
