My recent routine blood test shows a haemoglobin level of 6.3.I am told that this is odd but nothing to worry about and I will be contacted by a GP eventually.Can anyone tell me if this is because of P.A. or medication or another anaemia.Any advise would be gratefully received.I am 87 so not surprised at anything.Many thanks.

It's good if you want advice on test results to include the units and also the range that is considered normal for the test. I can't help you but someone else if they have that info.

That sounds very low. You must be exhausted? I would think they should get back to you quite quickly.

Hi Im a nurse and that is very low Hb. At the least they should have spoken to you quickly with a plan for next steps. Are you aware that you ave been losing blood from anywhere ? Are you eating iron rich foods (many older people often dont). They need to find out why and then treat.

Hello.,I don’t know what the 6.3 refers to but the secretary said it was high?and the normal is between 4.0 and 5.9.I have no idea what the measurement is referring to.I am a retired nurse but am very out of touch.Have you any idea please.I am always tired and exhausted but put that down to PA and Age.Thank you for replying.Ann

The only test in my recent blood tests which has a range that is even similar is:

Red Blood Cells 4.40 - 5.80 (trillions of cells per litre).

Are you/they absolutely sure?

Again, from my recent blood tests, HbA1c had the ranges below:

General: 20 - 42

Non-diabetic 20 - < 42

Prediabetes 42 - < 48

Diabetes >= 48

Good control 48 - 59

All in mmol/mol.

None of those would be likely to be confused with your result.

Study up on low glycemic index foods and change out your hi GLI foods. It's not just about weight. But empty calories are usually a part of the problem.
