My daughter had a phone call from a nurse .

The nurse told G.p she didn't need them!!??

G.p cancelled he'd prescription .

Meddling nurses again .

She has them 10 weekly .

Reason given b12 levels high on last blood.

Last blood test was done in pregnancy on routine ones over a year ago !!

A disgrace .

On her notes level of 82 pg/mL( 200-900)

Had megobolastic anaemia initially .

Late diagnosis caused her damage .

Consultant gastroenterologist prescribed b12 injections for life.

Hi Nackapan

That’s outrageous! You must be livid!

Hopefully you and your daughter can resolve before Christmas do you can relax and enjoy.

So frustrating and enraging for you both, and after all your struggles. How can a nurse have the authority to override a doctor's prescription? Ok, flag it up if concerned but not cancel an appointment. I wonder if they do this for any other type of medication? Or is it part of the general B12 ignorance/passive aggression? Really hope this will be easily remedied for your daughter 🙏

Nurses meddling given me the worst problems. Just had a blood test.

Had put a line through b12 and folate as done together .

Phlebotomy had her own firm.

I asked hef not to do b12 .

She replied she has to do what is asked .

I rephrased it and said.

"I do not give consent " ( thanks Narwhal)

Then asked her to put reason on my notes .

She put exactly what I put as sag there slowly putting my cardigan back on.

She initially refused ad patients waiting.

Actually noone was ??

Patient does not give consent to B12 .

On regular b12 injections B12 levels will be high .

Waste of NHS money

Last bit made me laugh as said it and it put down.

True though

Covered her back .

Took timed 2 minutes

Good for you! If we say it often enough and to enough people, maybe it will sink in eventually!

I’m so sorry Nackapan. They’re really going after all the B12 injections over there and causing undue stress.

Omg why oh why do some medical staff not consider the impact of their actions on the person they are supposed to be supporting causing undue stress etc. I hope you get it resolved soon

Yes.She has to make a G.p appointment .

Well that's not easy !

It's all such a waste of NHS time.

I had to do the same a while back.

G.p reinstated.

Pharmacy still removed twice .

I.t didn't like it as not 'usual ' prescription

Totally agree extra appointments admin etc. etc. that's such a waste of resources & not cost effective in any shape or form for both patient & NHS the mind boggles. Good luck 🍀

You would think, wouldn't you, that instead of your family members having to fight these nurses' cancellations as individuals, that the nurses might better concern themselves with why three generations of the same family might have B12 deficiency in the first place !!!

Adequate treatment in order to keep an ill-understood condition, spanning three generations, under control - what nurse in their right mind would want to meddle with that ?

My total serum B12 has been over the measurable level since 2016. I know because to my knowledge it has been tested four times during the past 8 years. Knowing this result to be a constant, and yet no useful indicator of my symptoms, I will also be refusing this test .

A New Year's resolution !

🤬😡🤬😡 very angry in your daughters behalf. What is that matter with these medics - how are they so ignorant. It’s quite terrifying. Such a good job we have this forum not knly for information but for sympathy over medical nonsense. I hope your daughter gets this sorted ASAP.

Very best wishes getting this straightened out. Sometimes it is easier to take it into your own hands and self-inject. My husband gives me my injections.

Glad you've a solution that suits you. My daughter is 100% wanting the need for B12 injections to stay on her medical notes.

.She has battled to get the right care and diagnosis for years.

It was the late diagnosis that caused her disability in the first place .

I buy b12 (did so in the covid pandemic ) but also self inject with an NHS prescription.

It has been challenged many times.

Mostly by interfering nurses .

Also get an IM one from a nurse .

Gives me the opportunity to stay on their radar and challenge any ignorance about this.

My mum presently has 8 weekly NHS b12..

I do at times want to wash my hands of dealing with the NHS but

I do believe raising awareness, not accepting b12 prescription cancellations is the way forward .

We will all need the NHS at some stage .

Private medics are NHS trained and often do both.

Otherwise the medics will think its acceptable to just cancel b12 injections and the need not there for a persons health not on statistics.

I'm so weary of hearing B12 is a low priority and does not get the importance of it.

It will show up on their records how 'successful ' they are in reducing b12 prescriptions for the trend to continue and

the need not recorded on their data bases. .

My mum woukd never / couldnt buy her own or indeed self Inject.

I am her advocate to keep her prescription of B12 .

Without it she would be wrongly labelled with dementia as she appears like it without B12 at 95 so assumed.

B12 so far gets her mentally on track again.

The difference incredible.

Well not to us that know!

There are many others without advocates that need B12 who are alone without a partner to help self, inject order ect so should get it on the NHS.

Yes it should be available without a prescription here in the UK .

Meanwhile we are either needing an NHS prescription or relying on able to buy it from abroad.

Which isn't as straight forward as it used to be.

My daughter is exhausted /poorly at present.

The injustice affects her greatly as it does ne.

So i need to gather my armour to support her with this.

She's a brilliant writer and will put it across in a letter very well .

( better than me)

For all of us .

Thank you for your good wishes .

I'm glad we help each other on here.

I am in Canada and as far as I know things are better here. I have not seen many Canadians on this forum. One big difference is that injectable B12 is available here without a prescription and costs very little. It's awesome to advocate for others. I hope the PA society can somehow figure out a way to straighten things out for everybody. Until then it is also important to take care of ourselves as best as we can. I am saddened to hear your daughter is not doing well. And very, very sad to hear that her diagnosis was so late. Permanent issues can be avoided if the diagnoses come earlier. I hope that somehow the damage she had is reversible.
