Can anyone advise what to do about the acne outbreak I've got from injections?

hi Popcorn 12345, I have the same issue which stops me from SI too frequently. I currently SI every fortnight. I have just finished a 4 month course of Doxycycline and so far so good. I was unable to get a sympathetic response from my GP and resorted to using the online Independent Pharmacy. It wasn’t a difficult process and the information and options they recommended were brilliant. There was a general form to fill in relating to medical history and duration of your current medical issue. I won’t say it was cheap, but I was so desperate by the time I found them, I would have sold my firstborn. Hope this helps.

Doxycycline can, however, deplete B12. When I had that prescribed as a trial to see if SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) was the cause of my b12 deficiency, I got constant headache and vertigo. An adverse reaction - there are lists of which medications can deplete B12 and worth looking up.

I found that the acne-type spots from B12 injections (face, hairline, neck, even in ears and up nose) were fairly short-lived and and over the first few months started to disappear without help. It only reappeared when B12 symptoms reappeared - and subsequent injections were like starting again from scratch. So, hopefully it won't be long before this is a thing of the past for you.

I think this is quite a common experience when starting B12 injections.

This never happens to me now.

I only had the spots for a couple of weeks and don’t seem to get them anymore.

From memory, I believe it’s mainly cyanocobalamin that causes them, hydroxo less, an expert will correct me if I’m wrong. I still use cyano as using up stocks 🌱

I take hydroxy and the acne rosacea has been a constant problem from the outset (over 2 years) . I spent a fortune on creams, lotions, washes and various supplements. Nothing worked until I was prescribed doxycycline. It’s a real balancing act between getting enough b12 and being able to face the world. We are all different. The Independent Pharmacy were very good at giving comprehensive advice and offered a range of options on the current recommended medications. There was a couple of downloadable fact sheets and discussion on what to do to lessen dependence on taking antibiotics and how to progress to the next stage of treatment to contain outbreaks. I am no longer on doxycycline and have been able to manage my symptoms with a gentle face wash and light hyaluronic antioxidant cream. I also take a probiotic with 20 billion live cultures. While on the antibiotics I increased the probiotics to 2 x day. I,ve since reduced this back to 1. I felt I needed to take a step back to get on top of things and like everyone else, I am aware of the damage antibiotics can do with their ability to kill every bacteria in site. Since I have stopped using the doxycycline, I am now able to SI without experiencing the burning, itching, redness and horrible pustules all over my face and especially in the centre. On the odd occasion that I am able to tolerate wearing makeup, I use a sterile coverup that blends in well to reduce the redness. My skin isn’t perfect but I have found a routine that has given me back my confidence to meet the public again.

Is there any other compound in your injections? Have you tried a different source for hydroxocobalamin? I get acne from folic acid. Here in the US it is added to white four and white rice, so I have to be careful to avoid those food products. If you are taking folic acid as well, it could be the culprit.

I use Clinique face wash morning and night, then take panthotonic acid daily. Took about 3-4 weeks for the panthotonic acid (B5) to build up enough to fully clear the acne.

Get either the mild or oily skin version.

And yes. I did the antibiotics as the first attempt and hated all the side effects.

I had a rash of acne on the inside of my thighs that has cleared up for the first time since \i was a teenagers and it started.I am 58 now! i used hibiscrub to wash about once a day. You would have to be very careful if you put it on your face not to get it in your eyes as strong stuff.

I struggled with this at first. It took my body several months to get used to the B12. Now, it’s not an issue.

If you keep taking B12 injections the acne starts to lessen and goes away after a few months. I had very bad acne on forehead area, about 50 bumpy painful spots full of pus. I continued injecting because couldn’t cope without injections. It went away after about 6 months.

Doesn’t last forever.
