hello, I’m new here. I have 6 loading shots of b12 after having a myriad of symptoms (dizziness, shortness of breath, weakness and numbness down one side, headaches, gastro issues, struggling to walk and talk). They are making me feel stronger but I have had some symptoms seem worse on some days (often day after injection). I’ve also developed black diarrhoea. Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be related? Should I keep going with the shots? Any wisdom would be appreciated.

Hi polcol,
Welcome here. So, first things first, I do not know what country you are in. PA/B12D is poorly understood by the medical profession. Not their fault. So, you need to educate yourself and we help where we can.
So, it’s worth joining the Pernicious Anaemia Society which is an international organisation. They have accurate literature.

Please know there is a lot of weird unreliable websites out there. The best book I can recommend is Dr Joseph Chandy’s Vitamin B12 Deficiency in Practice. Yes, he worked in the U.K. but he talks about the Human body’s systems. Plus, the reversing out syndrome (feeling worse after an injection).
Black diahorrea could be something you ate or some old blood. It could just be a one off or if it continues then discuss with your healthcare provider. Yes polcol, the B12 injections and your diahorrea can be related. In fact, I am pretty certain they are.
PA/B12D originates in the gut and you also have neurological symptoms of weakness and numbness down one side, headaches, struggling to walk and talk. The Nervous System also contracts the gut and pushes food down the intestinal tract.
Yes, definitely continue with treatment.

Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it. I’m in the UK and have joined PAS. I will absolutely buy that book. It’s all quite bewildering. I was quite lucky in that my doctor has another patient with PA so recognised it in me. Thanks again.
My pleasure, polcol.
Good that your GP recognised it. It is a learning curve, so take your time with it. Remember to have balance in your life and do things that you enjoy.
I just had a little walk and burst out laughing at ducks queuing up for the ice cream van.

are you taking Iron? I ask as that caused the same issue with me regarding your gut. If so switch to gentle iron as that’s not effected me
Hi Polcol I think you have taken to much for the first time.
