Has anyone experienced symptoms returning from one alcohol drink for 2 days? I had a birthday weekend last Thurs and Fri and haven’t been drinking.Get weekly shots . I also had added in my nasacort spray prior to this and been taking naproxen. Feeling wiped out shaky nervous system not happy. But I had no side effects the 2 days I drank . So strange. I have stopped nose spray . Anyone have any advice?

I didn't have any alcohol for over 3 years. If it makes you ill just stay off it .

At least something you are in control off to keep symptoms at bay.

hi. I definitely found alcohol made my symptoms so much worse. Stopped drinking for years. Now I find I am ok with a bit occasionally.

Yes. My PA symptoms worsen appreciably if I have only one drink. I drink very little and a glass of wine will make me feel much worse. Beer less so. So it must be the level of alcohol in the drink. I'm now seriously considering having no alcohol at all.Stress is the other catalyst for worsening PA symptoms.

This might be off at a tangent (!), but did you see a lot of people in your birthday weekend? It may be that you have picked up something viral from the meet up, and your body is focusing resources on fighting it off. I understand from others’ posts in different threads that when they are fighting off an illness / virus, B12 seems to be depleted much faster, and some have found that increasing frequency of injections at these times helps. Hope you feel better soon :)

Good point. Also Sensory overload with a few people and talking makes me worse unfortunately.

Used to be very socialable.

Unfortunately, you will need to stop drinking to recover properly. Alcohol depletes B12 because B12 is a detoxifier. And if it sits in the liver, your organs will need to work harder which puts extra pressure on your body.

Its hard for friends and family to understand but you must stop completely at least for a year or so.

I drink very little alcohol anyway but stopped completely for a couple of years following my b12 diagnosis as I realised how poorly I would feel afterwards. My b12 level was so low that giving up alcohol was an easy choice to make until I recovered enough to tolerate the odd glass again.

The simple answer to this question is yes. Consumption of alcohol (of any kind) affects the level of B12 absorption in the body even if taken in moderate amounts. Studies show that even a little amount of alcohol can decrease vitamin B12 absorption by about 5-6%.

I recently had some Baileys and now feel worse for wear. 🤔

I also get pretty wiped after one drink as well. I find that I am also sensitive to many drugs with Nasacort being one of the worst. I use askpatient.com which helps determine side effects that I am experiencing based on other patient stories - very helpful.

i have a glass of red every night, and no difference. 2 glasses and palpitations all night, so it's clearly a very tight line!

Yes, alcohol slows B12 absorption!!

Consumption of alcohol (of any kind) affects the level of B12 absorption in the body even if taken in moderate amounts. Studies show that even a little amount of alcohol can decrease vitamin B12 absorption by about 5-6%.

Only 10-25% of the B12 we inject is active or utilized by the body, so to take 6% of that away, you are getting next to nothing.

Happy Birthday by the way. Mine is tomorrow.

Yes, same, alcohol really amps up symptoms regardless of whether I've had B12 that day/week or not.

Alcohol has always had strong and adverse effects on me, though, long before my deficiency got bad enough to notice and treat. Think it's something to do with the gut and the stomach acid, but have never had chance or knowledge enough to dig and find out exactly why.

Thankfully am not keen on drink anyhow (would rather smoke, and only do so socially), so it's not a big deal and doesn't hurt my enjoyment of life. And tbh it's a convenient excuse to tell the hectorers who say I'm a buzzkill why I don't want a glass😘
