Abdominal Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment

I have been suffering with bloating, nausea and burning pain from my hip down to my groin, and across my abdomen for over two years. I have seen many specialists trying to find the cause, without success, apart from saying it’s neuropathic. I have concluded it is Abdominal Cutaneous Nerve entrapment (ACNES), as I have some spinal degeneration in my lumbar/thoracic area.

I have recently found out I have been B12 deficient for probably many years, and wondered whether this neuropathic pain could be due to nerve damage in my spine due to lack of enough B12.

Does anyone else suffer this type of nerve pain. And I wondered if it has improved since having B12 injections. I don’t the spinal degeneration to be repaired, but I am hoping the nerve pain associated with it may improve.

I have been dealing with similar pain. Lots of pelvic, lower back and sciatic type pain. It got really bad about a month ago when I was accidentally using my backup (several months expired12. ave you tried daily injections? It will often get worse before it gets better but you can heal! I'm getting better after twice daily injections- 2,500mcg morning and 1,500mcg in the evening. I will be going back to once per day once I feel much better.

Hi Chickens44,I have spinal degeneration and stenosis in both the cervical and lumbar spinal regions. I also have burning sensations down my right leg and warm tingling down the right hand side of my torso, front and back, from tge chest down. I lack heat sensitivity across the whole of this area. The dividing line is exactly down the middle of my body. I've realised that I tend to not feel any internal discomfort or pain in the rhs of my abdomen either. When all this started happening I discovered that I had B12D deficiency. My doctor eliminated a few different causes but then told me to self treat with b12 tablets. I did this for several years with my neurological symptoms getting progressively worse before taking the plunge and switching to IM injections. I did 6 eod loading doses and have done around 3 months of twice weekly. Cant say that I have noticed any improvement yet, but maybe I need to switch to eod.

My spinal consultant has offered spinal decompression, which I have turned down for now, and has now scheduled some nerve block injections which should help my burning legs. She hasn't got a clue regarding the torso neurological symptoms though and is so far resisting passing me on to someone who might, despite a letter from my doctor suggesting this. She was dismissive of any b12D involvement but didn't seem to know how this would show on my mri scan.

Getting to the bottom of these things can be very frustrating when the specialists all stick to such narrow boundaries.

Best of luck with injections.

I have had a couple of nerve block injections, and an epidural, neither of which made any difference to the pain. The pain management consultant I see said it is a bit hit and miss. As they can’t see exactly where the nerves are damaged, so can’t guarantee any success. I could probably try again, but it costs and I’ve probably spent enough already. So hoping the SI B12 EOD will help. I have been told by the consultant who diagnosed my B12 deficiency that I will probably need to do EOD for anything up to 12 months. I am annoyed at how ignorant a lot of the medical profession are regarding B12 deficiency. So up to us to try and spread the word…

I have severe spinal stenosis, and my b12 deficiency was left for years.

It seemed like out of the blue I could no longer walk properly, after years of being an avid walker & someone who did HIIT etc. They have determined that the area is compressed, and therefore the nerves are not reaching my legs to make them move properly. The MRI revealed an almost complete obliteration of the epidural canal, which quite frankly made me feel like I was in a video game with that wording.

I had no improvement in this area with b12 shots. I had massive improvement with a myriad of symptoms, but this issue was not one of them - I am sorry to add.

But everyone is different, and every case is different. So totally worth the try.

I was happy to get the diagnosis (just recently, which is ridiculous) to be honest as it was frustrating to not know & get little improvement.

I personally will get surgery. I just have to wait as the surgeon I want is concerned that I have had sepsis twice, of unknown origin.

I am not someone who is crazy about surgery but I will be overjoyed with this one, I want some mobility back.

All the best to you.

For those reading and have similar issues, I do bike. Cycling has been a Godsend. It has allowed me so much. To feel active when you can't with your legs in other ways - so grateful.
