Sleep issues and melatonin

Hi everyone, has anyone sound information regarding the use of melatonin with autoimmune disease. I am reading conflicting advice about using it with certain autoimmune issues, although it doesn't mention PA or Hashimoto's specifically. Any advice would be helpful as my sleep or should I say lack of it is a big problem. Many thanks

I have found that supplementing melatonin only works for about three nights and then I revert. I have found a) staying off screens in the evening, b) going for a walk at dawn (or just early in the summer...dawn is TOO early) and maybe supplementing GABA before bed more helpful. I try to go to bed at 9 or 9.30

Thanks ottolinebear, is the GABA you refer to Gabapentin the prescription drug ? I always walk but in the evening

No! The precursor to Melatonin. GABA. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). If you don't have time to walk in the morning then at least have a cuppa in the morning light. It will regulate your circadian rhythm.

I second that about staying off of screens, particularly being in close proximity to a device that is streaming content of any sort. I verily believe that excessive RF is ruinous to sleep and sleep cycles.

Thanks Newhealth, I need to be more disciplined as I do sometimes use screens in the evening

If you order an RF meter (i recommend the Trifield) you'll see how much RF your exposed to, it's frankly shocking. Compare what your exposed to to what they permit school children to be exposed to (very low levels are permitted there) in Switzerland and really makes you start to think.Cheers

I have PA and have used 3mg of liquid Melatonin as a sleep aid each night for the past several years. It has helped me sleep more soundly without any issues.

Hi Helliborous,

I use a hemp oil at night.

A couple of quirts under the tongue relaxes me and before I know it I am out like a light. πŸ›Œ 😴 Zzzzzzzz

Theres a new sleep drug called daridorexant available on prescription and unlike all other prescription sleep medication it has no side effects that I've noticed.

I stock up on melatonin on my trips to the US. My understanding is that you're only meant to use it for three nights, not regularly. I take half a tablet for 2-3 nights if I'm having trouble getting to sleep (when my brain won't shut up!). That seems to work for me. Hope you find something that helps. πŸ™‚

I am using magnesium glycinate taken just before bed which I find helps along with making sure I take enough physical exercise each day. Other forms of magnesium upset my system or didnt work. Melatonin didn't work for me.

Thanks Rosydawn, I take a marine magnesium containing 5 different types none of which are glycinate so that is something else to try πŸ‘

Hi there! I was taking it before dx with PA (but I surely had the PA already), with great success. However, it wasn't a store brand but a dissolveable troche from a compounding pharmacy. Seemed to be higher quality than any brand I had ever tried. That said, I second what others have said about sunlight and restricting screen time at night. Best of luck!

Thanks canyongirl, the brand I have sourced from America is 'Now' 3mg I'm going to try tonight , I don't know where it stands in the league tables though. I'll update in a few days.
