Do people suffer with burning pain, a bit like IBS pain, but more constant and burning anywhere across the abdomen. I am still awaiting tests to confirm PA, but I know I have a very high pH, so almost no stomach acid, which is obviously causing the pain. I eat a varied diet, not much in the way of processed foods, and not sure what brings on the pain. But I don’t want to stop eating as I dont think that’s going to help.
My question is what can one do to help the pain? Hot water bottle? I am trying to remember to take a Betaine HCL with a meal, but has anyone got any good ideas to help with the pain in the short term?

Low /no stomach acid ( Hypochlorhydria/ Achlorhydria leads to bad bacteria taking over in the stomach . This causes pain and bloating .
Drinking an acidic drink with protein meals helps . Diluted organic apple cider vinegar with the mother can help . Now also available in tablet form. A definite help is also a probiotic drink like kefir or real yoghurt sauerkraut , kimchi etc Yhis helps to establish good stomach flora . I’m just starting to make my own kimchi . If you can’t take to fermented foods , try a probiotic capsule . or a course of treatment with Symprove .
Also try having small meals more often . Chew very thoroughly . and make meal times relaxed and enjoyable.
If you do want to use Betaine HCl with pepsin , ask a dietician for advice or get instructions on how to use it ( on the internet )
I would recommend a request to be seen by a gastrologist. I have the same burning sensations and resorted to all sorts of things to try and curb it. My Gp had prescribed Lansoprazole for a hiatus hernia which I now know can reduce the absorbtion of B12. I waited months to be seen by a gastrologist but it has given the answer's as to why my gut was so incomfortable. A gastroscopy showed I have errosive gastritis, the colonoscopy showed I have Crohns disease !
This diagnosis explains my B12 deficiency and lack of absorbtion and the reason for the unpleasant burning sensation!
Thanks. I have seen two gastroenterologists privately over the last year. One told me he didn’t know what was causing the burning pain, the other advised me do a low FODMAP diet for six weeks, which didn’t make a difference. Both said the symptoms didn’t appear to symptomatic with IBS, diverticulitis or any other gut related problem. I’m seeing Dr Klein at the Cambridge Iron Clinic in a couple of weeks, so hoping he can get to the bottom of it. But I do think I have PA, probably caused by autoimmune gastritis. I’m still waiting for a blood test from my surgery for intrinsic factor antibodies.
I am pleased to hear your going to see Dr Klein who is excellent within the field of PA. I tried all sorts of diets but none seemed to relieve my symptoms. Do not let your Gp rely on the intrinsic factor antibody test it is often inconclusive because antibodies can wax and wane. Many Gps and consultants are ignorant of this fact........... pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/193...
I have had IBS and Diverticula disease for many years but didn't experience burning. The burning sensation is an indication there is some sort of inflammation going on.
I hope Dr Klein can shed some light and give you answer's. 🤞
