Active B12 gone down

Hello, I have been on loading doses (initially from my GP and now SI) for 7 weeks and am slowly improving.

My initial active B12 was 48.1 ng/L, serum 162. I was on daily oral B12 supplements at the time so my results were skewed.

I know that blood tests after injections are considered pointless but I had an iron test privately yesterday that included active B12 and my results came back as 36pmol/L (if I’ve got this right it converts to 48.7 ng/L). I’m surprised it’s not increased since injecting (I inject EOD). Can anyone shed any light on this or is it just an anomaly?

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

I've assumed you're in UK.

Your serum and Active B12 levels were rather low so I'm guessing it might take some time for levels to build up.

I wondered if you've got recent results for folate, ferritin and other iron tests and vitamin D as forum members often report deficiencies in these as well as B12.

Has GP tested your potassium levels? Some people can get a drop in potassium levels when B12 treatment starts,

I left a detailed reply in the thread below which might be useful.

Are you getting folic acid? The more I learn the more I understand B12 works with other vitamins and minerals.
