What B vitamins do people take and what brands have pyridoxal-5-phosphate (vitamin B6) in? What else do people take other than potassium rich diet and B vitamins and what form do you take folic acid in? I've heard it should be folate as folic acid isn't very good? Thanks

B vits pyridoxal-5-phosphate (vitamin B6)
Hi Rachael887,
It does depend on whether a person has other diseases like Hashimoto’s disease or a malabsorption disease like Crohn’s, Inflammatory Disease or Celiac Disease. Those with these have to be careful what they eat, additives and fillers in supplements.
To answer your question, I take Viridian High Twelve B Complex where the B6 is in Pyroxidine HCl.
I am a refractory Coeliac (did not respond to gluten free diet) so take ALL supplements. Worked with a private dietician. I know my severe intolerances. Plus, I generally have no appetite until the evening. Then when I do eat, am in severe pain.
Most with PA/B12D have their fair share of ‘fun’.
pure brand has P5P but search for p5p and you'll find other brands.
This site has a nice b-multivitamins with the proper bioavailable versions.
Then you can high dose b1 (bendomax or thiamax) start with 100 or 200 mg. Thiamax is supposedly more bioavailable this perhaps more potent than the same dose benfomax but benfomax is a good alternative and still provides results. I started with benfomax 200mg and within 3 days I saw improvement with brain fog and memory. This in addition to being b12 deficient I must be b1 deficient. I do have insulin resistance which can cause a b1 deficiency. If you don't notice a diff after 30 days, maybe b1 is not needed. Everyone is different.
I since switched to thiamax but too soon to tell.
if high dosing b1, supplement magnesium and a b multi as b1 metabolism requires those things and if high dosing without supplementation of these other required nutrients, these nutrients end up getting depleted.
I also take P5P (b6) 50MG / day.
I take 5mg of folic acid a day as my consultant told me. It works very well and is not a problem despite some trying to demonise it. If you can eat enough dark green veg etc. thats fine I just cannot eat enough of it to balance EOD injections of B12.
Hi Rachael
Folate is the generic term used to describe many different forms of B9 , natural and synthetic. Natural folate can be found in leafy green veg, citrus fruits and beans. Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate in supplements and fortified foods. There is another synthetic form folinic acid too. If anyone is deficient in folate then supplements like folic acid are the quickest way to raise it but if you’re not deficient then of course eating foods with it in , is healthy anyway.
A good quality B complex is a good idea but I was advised not to take one with over 10mg of B6 as this can cause neurological symptoms if taken long term in high doses. I personally don’t take a B complex with more than 10mg.
