PA sufferers ive just realised

How many good vitamins Marmite has in it. Fortified with B vitamins, barley wheat oats rye also has thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B12 and folic acid.

Surely having some marmite each day ( as hard as it is to eat ) would help with PA and the extra vitamins will help.

If you do have knowledge of this and can confirm it if anyone knows id be really grateful . Btw im in the UK, so i dont know what the American or other Nationality term what it could be called, i think the Australian one is Vegemite.

Marmite will be of no more help than any other food rich in B12 for alleviating any B12 deficiency.

If your deficiency is caused by a lack of B12 in your diet then 1.5 servings of Marmite will give you your daily allowance of B12. If it is caused by an absorption problem then it will be of little to no help.

Thank you fbirder, so basically its no use at all for me then because it is caused by absorption rather than lack of it. Never mind i will still try and use the Marmite on something rather than binning it, only just opened it lol.

I love the stuff. Unfortunately it contains gluten and doesn’t love me. I get bouts of diarrhea and brain fog when I eat it.

I've eaten marmite all my life. They used to have it in little yellow tins at the baby clinic.

Obviously not enough for me not to get B12 defiency.

If you carry on absorbing nutrients and a vegetarian then great. It does have a high salt content.

I love it.

Nackapan, i never thought of the salt content, reason I say this is because im diagnosed with non alcholic cirrhosis of the liver. I never put salt on any food, and i do know most foods contain a bit of salt, but didnt for one minute think of checking for salt content when i bought it. Thanks for sharing that bit of info.

Yes, Marmite contains a fair amount of salt, but most of us don't actually consume very much Marmite so the total salt intake might not be too bad.

How much salt is there in a serving of Marmite?

A typical 8g serving of Marmite contains 0.86g of salt, equivalent to 14% of an average adult’s daily reference intake. An 8g serving of Marmite Reduced Salt contains 0.49g of salt equivalent to 8% of an average adult’s daily reference intake.

Interestingly, one slice of Mothers Pride bread contain almost exactly the same amount of salt as the reduced salt Marmite - 0.48g.

That's why I don't have high blood pressure then.

It was just to be aware of the salt content. Can be used as a drink in casseroles and cooking ect.

I realise salt in alot of things.

parallel product in Australia is, indeed vegemite - which you can also get in the UK - but the taste is slightly different.

as others have said - not of much use for anyone with a B12 absorption problem - the amount you would need to take daily would be problematic because of salt content.

Thanks Gambit. I did think for a moment id found something to keep me going in Marmite, now i do deffinately hate it lol.
