My Vitamin B12 test after injection

Hello dear community membersI tested my vitb12 level as 187 pg/ml. (182-955)

I started taking loading doses of 6 *1mg every 2 weeks. After loading doses i tested again my B12 again after 1 month the loading doses. It came back as 550pg.i injected one shot per month for about 4 month after loading doses. I thougt that my level should be normalised after these amounts of injections. So i waited for 2 month and tested again my B12 yesterday. Result came back 355 pg/ml (188-940).i thougt that it was at lower end again after such amounts of injections. My last injection was 2 month ago (1mg cyanocobalamin). What do you members think about my new test result.? Is it normal to have level of 355 after such injections?

Regards

What country are you living in?

I don't really understand why you are concerned with the levels having been injecting regularly - they are bound to be high - more important is the question how you are feeling?

Do you supplement with folic acid or iron as these work with the B12 to make healthy red blood cells.

I am not a medically trained person but have been having monthly injetions of cyanocobalamin for over 51 years for P.A,

I wish you well

Thank you for your reply. Live in turkey. The reason why i started to injection was because i was always tireed. Lack of motivation, low energy, sleeeeeeeppyness all timee ... No nueromedicine like antidepressants helped me anyway. Doctors rejected me to inject. Because they say 188 is very normal. But i myself decided to injection to see if it works for me. And i really experienced very sharp good results and benefits from injection. My cognitive power increased. My energy level also the same. I read in some articles that in japan, their health-care professionals have changed their lower value of normal b12 as 460 pg/ml.Anyway i felt that my energy level has increased. My sleppyness decreased. I even was not able to walk in balance. Or even can not stand up more than 5 minutes. I think b12 injections may be miracle for me. I dont experience that bad feelings or 1 year ago. I visited cardiologist s or neurologist. But they said nothing is wrong with you. And you don't need to injection b12. But the reality was not that way. I felt good my self

Hello, i am on one week injection for more than 7 years. I think you have to self inject more regularly, because you are tired and have no energy. Try with B12 hydroxocobalamin. No need to check your level. I am not a medical person.

Goog luck !

Thank you for your reply sir. Hydroxy form of b12 shot is not available in my region. Is it important to use that form? The only form available here is just ciyanocobalamine form

I have used both and see no difference . . . . . . Perhaps if you spreading the injections out but as regular as every few days I cant see how Hydroxo would be any better. . . . Much of the world uses Cyno and its cheaper and easier got

Hi Emiroskui,

Even some doctors do not understand this but testing once you have started treatment is not productive.

Great link to explain, with medical footnotes-

Another great link about common misconceptions -

But yes your reading should have stayed up longer, but concentrate on symptom relief, with your choice in frequency.

All the best to you.

Thank you for your reply sir. Im confused. Because i can't belive or rely on doctord. They say 188 is veeeeery normal. But on the other side i can experience good results from injection.. The other thing that i heard about is that injecting b12 frequently can cause liver cancer. And i became obsessed with this. I even am not sure if am i deficient really or not. My cbc is normal. HGB and mcv and RBC are in range. HGB 16. RBC 5.3 (35 y male) sometimes my HGB comes back in high amounts of 17. (before starting treatment).

I was simply referring to testing after you begin treatment Emiroskui, that some doctors do not understand that part of the equation.

As far as liver cancer, I do not know where you are getting that information. Can you share a link? Sometimes people can have high b12 readings, without any supplementation, and that alone indicates that there might be an underlying condition (possibly certain forms of cancer). But that does not mean that supplementation causes cancer.

Link with medical footnotes on that area of investigation -

And I am not a sir.🙃

"The other thing that i heard about is that injecting b12 frequently can cause liver cancer."

Nope. There's no evidence for that.

Never heard of serum B12 188 being considered normal, were you given a range?

Like I said to you 4 months ago, testing serum B12 is not effective (or useful) to gauge efficacy of treatment. Focus on whether its improving your symptoms or not (at least once you pass early treatment decline, a stage when things can get worse in early treatment of severe deficiency).

It is not advisable to titrate your dose to reach a specific B12 level, symptoms are most important. You have started treatment so you can ignore B12 serum levels and focus on alleviating symptoms.
