Vitamin b12 - Tingling AFTER injection.

Hi!

its 4 weeks ago i finished my vitamin b12 loading dose. I had 10 injections in total. (1 injection twice a week, so for 5 weeks) After the last injection everything started to tingle, my head, my hands and my feet. It was really extreme, so bad that I couldn't sleep. it started to burn and as soon as I got into bed. Now I unfortunately still have these complaints :(. I'm afraid I've suffered nerve damage from these injections. It's not as intense as in the beginning but it's still there. I'm really disappointed because I thought it would get better but I feel it's only getting worse now. Has anyone experienced this? Because I didn't suffer from neuropathy at all before my injections. How long will this last?

Greets from Iris

What was your B12 level before injections? Its pretty normal to have new onset tingling and pins and needles when a severe deficiency is corrected, its usually caused by nerve repairs starting. I had similar a few weeks into start of my treatment. For me it subsided gradually over many months but can sometimes reappear with strain/exercise.

I've never heard of any record of any case ever recorded where injected B12 induced nerve damage, rather the opposite. Although its a disturbing sensation (I know well) its better than the alternative of doing without B12 which would be gradually increasing numbness and creeping paralysis (and much else besides).

Depending on how long you were deficient and the severity of the deficiency, recovery may take quite a long time. For me, some symptoms increased in severity (or new symptoms appeared) for several months before stabilizing and then gradually improving.

my GP has tested for the active varaint 'vitamin b12 holo-transcobalamin/active' and this value was 33

folic acid 17 and b6 86. I live in the Netherlands I don't know if these values are tested differently in other countries.

Any range provided for the active B12 result? And any serum B12 result?

20 for active seems on the low side but worth confirming the lab ranges.

Hi IrisXx,

Many on the forum report that their symptoms get worse before starting to improve.

Someone described it to me at the nerves waking up after being starved of B12 for so long.

I experienced a lot more tingling after I started B12 treatment but I took it as a sign that the nerves were starting to heal.

Here's a few B12 links relevant to the Netherlands...

Dutch B12 books

stichtingb12tekort.nl/nieuw...

There is a Dutch version of "Could it Be B12" book by Sally Pacholok and JJ Stuart.

There are other people from Netherlands who post here so you may find it helpful to search posts for their threads.

There was a thread started about a month ago by DiNL .

Just found another Dutch B12 website that may be useful by Henk de Jong

home.kpn.nl/hindrikdejong/

Henk de Jong also posts on Facebook and Twitter.

If you search online for "Henk de Jong B12" it should show some links.

I'll add a few more B12 links later today.
