New smaller needle issue

Following recommendations on here. I used 31G 6 mm Needle for subcutaneous, I've previously been using 1inch needles for I M injections. I have just used the new 31G needle and have a lump on my thigh under my skin is this normal? Has the B12 gone in? What have I done wrong??

Hi pinkpaddleboarder,

No panic, you have put the Hydroxycobalamin or Cyanocobalamin in. Just a little mishap that can happen. On this occasion, the needle was not deep enough into the muscle. You can massage the area for about a minute. See how it is in 4 hours.

Practice makes perfect. On a personal note, sat in a University classroom, 2 of us could not wait to get our hands on our equipment. Nurses and midwives practice with needles, saline, oranges, weird rubbery muscles, mannequins and each other. 🐳

My apologies for misunderstanding. Even though I am very experienced at injecting, I sometimes bruise myself or think yep, that is a bit ouchie. I subcutaneously inject into my stomach. I was taught a 45 degree angle but some do 90 degree. Like Nackapan says a mere blip.

😘

It may havd pooled. Sc goes into the fatty tissue.

Massage it as suggested it will disperse .

I have done sc for over 3 years now.

I use a 30G 1/2 " long needle .

27-30 G mostly used.

31G is used for insulin .

There is less fluid per injection with insulin.

Try again ,might be a blip or try a slightly bigger needle??

Or may work on an other area of your body

I don’t think it matters . I injected Hevert (2ml) sub cut and it created quite a swelling. Soon disappeared though.

It could be that you have hit a small blood vessel. It happens even with short needles. If a bruise appears, that will confirm it. I'm on blood thinners and get spectacular bruises occasionally. If not, then as the others have said, its just the B12 under the skin. I inject SC and sometimes get a pink stain on the skin, which disappears in a few days as the B12 gets absorbed, so don't worry if that happens 🙂

No bruise, lump has gone now. hopefully it has been absorbed now, thanks

I've had this happen to me on one occasion over 3 years now. As others suggest, massage the site and it will be OK. I inject SC 90 degrees in my thigh.
