I have had the results of my recent endosendoscopy today. I went privately to see a gastroenterologist as the previous one I had done on NHS stated that I did not need a follow-up even though they found Atrophic Gastritis and Hyperplasia. I had something called The Sydney Protocol, this involved taking biopsies from different areas in my stomach 12 biopsies in total. They found a lot of Metaplasia and that I need 3 yearly surveillance told me to take vitamins A C and E, said my stomach acid would be low but he had no suggestions for that. I told him I was taking lime juice before meals suggested by a helpful member of this group ( thank you wedgewood ). I am feeling really worried because of this result any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Biopsy Results
Hi Helliborous,
I am sorry to read and that you have been left without good Management.
So :-
1) At [time] on [date], [Helliborous] had an [Endoscopy] at [Endoscopy Unit, Name, Hospital].
2) At [time] on [date], [Helliborous] had a [Follow Up appointment] or letter from/with [Dr Perry Cox]. The results showed :-
Atrophic Gastritis and Hyperplasia.
3) No Advice, No Treatment, No Management including Plan of Care via NHS.
4) At [time] on [date], [Helliborous] had an [Endoscopy with The Sydney Protocol with 12 biopsies in total from different parts of the TRUE stomach] at [Endoscopy Unit, Name, Hospital].
5) At [time] on [date], [Helliborous] was told/had a letter/had a Follow up appointment with/from [Dr Seuss] and was informed that a lot of Metaplasia was found.
6) Plan :-
a) Manage Hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid) - Betaine HCL and Pepsin may be needed.
b) Take Vitamins A, C and E.
c) Surveillance in 3 years.
Okay, so, all I have done is put your recent Medical History into a logical and easy to follow order from a Medical point of view. This is how we work.
I am not a Gastroenterologist. I do not know your signs and symptoms nor the rationale for you having an Endoscopy in the first place.
From a Medical Point of View, every single Clinician has to explain :-
1) Their line of thinking when referring, ordering a test or an investigation.
2) Their actions.
I have absolutely no idea why only take Vitamins A, C and E. I definitely believe that you need to have an appointment with a Dietician. Privately, they are about £80.00. They are very thorough. They understand not only the anatomy, physiology of the Gastrointestinal tract but the Biochemistry too.
Hope that helps.
Sending my best.
😘

Thank you Narwhal for your helpful reply, I was diagnosed with PA in 13 years ago and had injections at first every 3 months then later every 2 months. During covid I started to SI every month I now do weekly and usually do OK with that. In Nov 2022 I had an endoscopy NHS this is when I was told about the Atrophic gastritis and hyperplasia 2 biopsies both OK so no further action just given gaviscon. I was worried about not being followed up, Eso at the time decided to see a Gastro in a years time after reading about Atrophic gastritigastritis and the management of. I had a lot of stress in Sept this year and my stomach flared up again this is when I saw the Gastro privately and when he did all the biopsies. The Metaplasia was identified then. Sorry for the ramble x
Gosh no it is no problem about the ramble. When I put things in Logical order, then I am just showing what has been missed.
I am actually a Mathematician who has a love of very long algorithms.
I am utterly unimpressed by Oh here is some Gaviscon and off you trot attitude.
You will find that in Medicine and Maths there is a huge Greek influence. Hippocrates, Father of Medicine.
Archimedes - Father of Geometry and Archimedes, well, he said Eureka amongst many things. He also did some work on the Method of Exhaustion.
Sound familiar in P.A ?

Hi Narwhal10,
Is there such a thing as a register of approved dietitians anywhere, do you happen to know?
Thanks 🙏
Hi J972,
Like doctors, dieticians also have to have a Registration Number. That can be searched under the Health Care Professional Council.
hcpc-uk.org/check-the-regis...
This does not give much about them, bit like a car chassis but you will know they are who they say they, have qualifications.
The Association of U.K. Dieticians is aimed at Dieticians but has some interesting resources. You can only ask them if they can provide you with a list in your area. I am unsure but by saying list you are hedging your bets.
bda.uk.com/news-campaigns.html
Now, another clever way is Google dietician in area, look at backgrounds, compare to Health Care ProfessionalCouncil register and see if they have published research.
Sorry v tired so eyes squiffy 🐳
That’s super helpful of you, thank you.
My Pleasure,
You can access Examine as well.
Pop onto gluten free guerillas on Health Unlocked as well, there is a couple of Qualified people there. I know one person cannot maintain their iron levels to ‘work’ so does what they can from home.
All the best,
🐳
