Low Stomach Acid solution/remedies

Hi, I’m new to this board. I have had PA for nearly 20 years now. My B12 levels are kept within the normal range with oral sublingual cyanocobalamin or methylb12 2000mcg taken daily. My question is does anyone have any suggestions for increasing stomach acid with PA naturally? My gastroenterologist told me people with PA will make lower levels of acid due to this condition which will affect our digestion and also absorption of other nutrients iron for example. Any ideas, and successes in raising stomach acid would be much appreciated :) thank you

Hi Upandup52, I am interested in the responses you will get as I am also concerned about my gut health. I have purchased Symprove to see if this will help my digestion.

Kind regards,

Susan

Hi Susan, thank you for sharing the Symprove. I had not heard of it. Please let me know how it works for you. It sounds like exciting and new technology compared to conventional probiotics . I’m interested to hear about what your experience using it is on how it affected your gut health.

Hi soos and upandup52

I'm also trying to improve gut health, and have trouble keeping iron, vit d, mineral levels up so am also interested in how you both get on.

I've always drank lemon in water, but not sure if it's as effective as lime?

I'm also desperate to start some probiotics and have been looking into Symprove and also recommended Optibac on here too, so need to make a quick decision between the two as am finishing antibiotics today and after having just got a very sore stomach/nausea calmed down after weeks of it, and introducing supplements back one at a time am looking for improvements as am struggling to get appetite back.

Will be really interesting soos to hear how you find Symprove hope it helps and am hoping you see an improvement up and up with increasing your acid...😀

Hi Jo,

I have had good luck with OrthoMolecular Vitamin D. I was able to raise my levels quickly on it and I live in the northern hemisphere where there is not a lot of sun a lot of the year. I do struggle keeping my iron stores in the normal range and have actually needed to have iron IV’s as iron supplements upset my stomach. Mega foods blood builder was recommended by my Doctor who says she sees good results with it. Again, I was to sensitive to it and it’s a food based iron tablet. I do take House of Herbs black strap molasses which my stomach tolerates and has 70% of the daily allowance of iron in a single tablespoon.

Hope your stomach settles down and best of luck finding a good fit with a probiotic. I think we are all so different in our gut flora that what works for one may not work for another. Just my non medical opinion :)

Be well, Kim

Hi Jo5454, I have started Symprove today. From what I have read it seems to be promising so I am committing to finishing the bottle. I also will be doing the test to see if I am low or high acid. The chances are high that people with PA/B12d could be low stomach acid.

Hi Soos,

What is the test you are doing to see if you have low or high stomach acid?

I too would like to know if my symptoms are due to high or low acid. Is it a medical one? I’ve only heard of the test where you take a small amount of baking soda in the morning on an empty stomach and see if and how long it takes you to belch :)

Hi UpandUp52 personally I add a few drops of lime juice to the glass of water with meals. Others have suggested apple cider vinegar.

I am not medically trained person but have had P.A. for over 47 years following gastric surgery which removed two thirds of my stomach back in 1959.

I wish you well

Hi Clivealive,

Thank you for that suggestion and well wishes. And I hope that you are doing well. I’m not sure if you can private message on this forum but I am interested I’m what your experience was after you had gastric surgery. My doctors are proposing a 3/4 resection of my stomach and am concerned about the impact on my digestive and overall health. They don’t seem to comment much when I ask them what I can expect. Would you be willing to tell me how it impacted you? I don’t feel comfortable moving forward with the procedure until it is more clear and I can weigh the cost and benefits. Bests Kim
