does having a drink every night (moderational)deplete your b12 even if injection every 3 months .
alcohol: does having a drink every... - Pernicious Anaemi...
alcohol
I think it does and vit C .None knows how much .
Others may know more
I inject weekly . This helps . Perhaps you need more than once every 3 months .
oh hell yes. I had to cease all drinking for 2 years. Now I drink once a week.
Stack the cards in your favor by avoiding the drinks.
Alcohol is a toxin so basically your liver prioritizes processing it and will pass everything , as in any nutrients you have taken in, through without absorbing them. This is one reason frequent drinking depletes b12 and other vitamines. This is a problem even for those who metabolize vitamins well.
I'm not against drinking but if you have b12 deficiency alcohol won't help.
Believe me, once I started feeling better I started drinking more and ended up having symptoms start to return.
Best of luck. There are no bad questions here.
Hi Triggert5656,
Some of us have :-
1) Alcohol intolerance. One drink and we have reactions from nausea, giddiness, nerve pain. May feel like we have the flu for a few days.
2) May have low levels of particular liver enzymes so can drink copious amounts of alcohol and because it is not metabolised stay as sober as a judge.
3) Have coeliac, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth so the ingredients in an alcoholic drink make us react.
I am just highlighting that P.A./B12D is not a one size fits all.
I agree with Wedgewood on your frequency, I inject every other day or every day when busy.
Best of luck.
Yes! I stopped drinking a few years ago as couldn't tolerate it well at all, then finally joined the dots and realised it was my B12D. I might be able to tolerate it better now, as I inject frequently, but still don't drink (I might have 1 Bailey's at Christmas, that's it!) as don't see the point in stripping out what I have just injected back in.Daily drink will certainly not be helping your levels. Sorry!
hi thanks to all .as I’m only 9months into this new way of life I have noticed since my last injection 9 weeks ago and I’ve been busier than normal and done a bit of walking that the pains in my legs have started to get worse.i only have a little drink on a night with tea but now you all have give me the answers I needed I will be knocking alcohol off .i also noticed my oxygen level is 88 at worst and 95 at best so so I’m guessing this may also be affected .
Yes oxygen SATURATION can be impacted.
Yes there are times when we NEED more Hydroxycobalamin or Methylcobalamin.
Factors are :
1) increased Cognitive or Physical activity,
2) Weather conditions this is because we are trying more to stay warmer or cooler.
3) Time of the month or menses.
4) Pregnancy.
5) Labour.
6) Postnatal period.
7) Breast-feeding.
8) Recovering from illness such as the Common Cold, an Upper Respiratory Tract infection.
9) An operation.
10) Life events - relationship breakdowns, divorce, bereavement.
There are others, these are just off the top of my head. This is why people should go on Symptoms not a fixed regime.
😘
I've had periods where I don't drink alcohol and periods where I have a small glass of wine most evenings. I didn't feel any different either way, so I think its down to the individual. But no harm in cutting it out for a while and seeing if you feel better.
The processing of alcohol by the body is essentially that of a toxin (super interesting to read about imo), so it does place some hefty demands. For a healthy person, I would not that think that 1 (small) drink a day would be a problem (I would take some days off though more for reasons of the addictive nature of alcohol than any proven harms to health). But if you are not absorbing B12 and only getting some every 3 months, if there are problems re-absorbing B12, you could be depleting it faster than the 3 month dose can keep it up. In your position I would probably reconsider either the regularity of B12 injection (increase it) or the drinking (reduce it). Could make a trial of how you do without for a while and see if it makes a difference anyway.
