slippery elm & pernicious anaemia

Morning all. I would like some advice on the following as don’t want to make my health any worse than it is. If you have pernicious anaemia & have absorption issues, is it ok to take slippery elm & marshmallow extract to line the stomach? I have this awful gnawing pain in the left upper back that I’m trying to ease & these herbal remedies were recommended. Does anyone else get this pain? I’m assuming it’s inflammation of my stomach. Gp is a waste of time with this disease as most already know. Tia

Hello, I haven't tried it yet, but:

If you insert 'slippery' in the search box at the top it brings up previous posts and replies for Slippery Elm. (but doesn't work if you put in slippery elm).

Hope it helps.

Hi there, I am trying slippery elm at the moment for similar symptoms but I have more discomfort on my right side and into my back on both sides of my ribcage also acid reflux. I have been taking the contents of 2 capsules mixed to a paste and then topped up with warm water. I take it before meals but so far no improvement so I am going to increase the dose to 4 capsules to see if that helps

Hi. Please let me know how it goes. I’m concerned about the remedy coating my stomach & it stopping any nutrients getting through. Wondering if this is possible.

@Helliborous

have they ever done a hida scan on you? this tests the gallbladder function (right side into the back is where the gallbladder is.)

I had constant pain on the right side (rib cage) area. it ended up being my gallbladder had just quit. No stones, just quit.

Hi. Interesting how we all have the same disease but different types of pain. Good you’ve got to bottom of it. I get a dragging pain in my left upper back by my shoulder blade. Think it’s my stomach but no one (gp etc) can tell me. Need to have scan done but nothing as of yet-only waited 3 years!

I have a B12 deficiency and I was rushed into hospital twice in a space of a week due to gallstones and the I was diagnosed with IBD . I was using slippery elm but in powder form to drink . I had no issues with it but I’m also taking lions mane due to extremely bad memory issues as I have FND and FCD.

Hi nmayow. Can you please tell me what FND & FCD are. Is lions mane making a difference as I’m suffering the same along with fatigue.

FND is functional neurological disorder and functional cognitive disorder. FND can mimic lots of things so you don’t know if your having say like a heart attack or not that’s what I had earlier this year they couldn’t find nothing wrong even though I was having all the pains and other symptoms I suffer with extreme fatigue and other problems yes the lions mane is good for memory and helps protect the brain cells the mushroom kit off Amazon is supposed to be really good but as I forget easily I chose the tablet form. Hope that helps

I think I’m similar to yourself. For a few weeks I could feel myself slowly becoming forgetful & having relapses with my memory. My husband thinks I have start of dementia but I know it’s not. I also have under active thyroid & know a lot can cross over with these diseases. I have the lions mane so will begin that today. Thanks so much for you info.

I can’t remember anything with my children that are adults now watching films I know I’ve seen before are like new films that’s if i don’t fall asleep within 10 minutes of it being on . I fall asleep and don’t realise it my phone wakes me up as it’s hit me in the face or fallen on the floor I can’t recall conversations and can’t register them the list goes on .

Do you have thyroid issues too? Do you have any support from any professional? I feel for you. My issues are intermittent & always trying to improve myself. I know it’s very difficult to get anywhere with anyone. That’s why we all turn to these sites. I’m sure it’s what saved me before I was diagnosed.

To be honest I don’t know if I have thyroid issues because I can’t remember to ask questions when I m on the phone to them but that hasn’t been a while because I just give up. No i don’t have any help except OT when my daughter started to have a go at them about my mobility got a stair lift wheelchair and wet room the last 2 years waiting for them to widen doors and ramps now

Hi I’m so sorry to hear that. Please try to get your thyroid checked as could be that that’s causing your issues. Gp is useless so I would recommend getting tested privately. Go on the thyroid site they are so helpful & will guide & support you. Maybe your daughter will help you. Hope you get everything you need & don’t have to wait much longer

I’m also taking things into my own hands I’m fed up with GP fobbing me off or gaslighting me as i don’t understand much but my daughter says I’m improving. I say go with your gut feelings and just experiment if you feel I’ll stop taking it . I’ve had to stop taking others because I felt I’ll feel better for stopping other herbal supplements

I use slippery elm. It has calmed my stomach. As I SI absorption not an issue.

Just started the slippery elm so🤞it has some effect. This pain is tiring & getting me down. I self inject too & would do whatever it takes to feel better

I don't know if this will help, but I find licorice and ginger (real licorice, not the red stuff) keep my stomach feeling good.

I’ve added that to my list & will give a try. Thank you.
