Hi,

Can B12 levels fluctuate?

I have been having a number of B12 related symptoms, took supplements and felt better. I stopped supplements on the 18th June & had 4 months clear of fortified cereal & so on to check if I have a deficiency.

I did an active finger prick test & my level on the 14 September had dropped to 67.2 (range 37.5-188)

However, I have just done an finger prick advanced thyroid test on the 16th & B12 is now up, & 94.2 (same range)

Anyone have any idea why this down & up?

Thank you.

Hi Ian232,

I am very impressed that you have written dates, 18th June and 14 September.

I will explain if I put a heart monitor on.

I am lying on my bed - my heart rate is 72 bpm.

I stand up it very briefly rises to 92 bpm and then goes back to 72 bpm.

I walk around to tidy my messy home, my heart rate goes up incrementally to 98 bpm. Then back down.

I prefer to do housework to music, so put some rock music on to do the hoovering, my heart rate rises to 84 bpm.

I decide that I want to get my whole home spick and span, so crank it up a notch. Music blaring, getting hot and sweaty, hoovering like there’s no tomorrow. My heart rate is now 134 bpm. I do this for 20 minutes.

I admire my handiwork, put vacuum away.

Put the kettle on, grab a cuppa, loaf on my sofa.

After 5 minutes my heart rate is 101 bpm.

10 minutes it is 88 bpm.

After 30 minutes it is 69 bpm.

See the variability of it.

How do I feel. I have achieved but I need a shower but I am too tired. I’ll rest for an hour. Then undress, shower, dry, clothes on.

What are your symptoms ?
